London South Bank University is one of London's largest and oldest universities
Since 1892, we've been providing vocationally-relevant, accredited and professionally recognised education.
We're a cosmopolitan university with over 18,000 students drawn from over 130 countries. We've been awarded Silver for teaching excellence under the Government's Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF). We are University of the Year for Graduate Employment (The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018) and Times Higher Education's Entrepreneurial University of the Year 2016.
Mission and vision
Our mission is to be recognised as an enterprising civic university that addresses real-world challenges.
By 2020, we want to be London’s top modern university and our Corporate Strategy 2015–2020 (PDF File 749 KB) sets out how we’ll achieve this vision:
We want to be recognised for providing a personalised and practical education that will set graduates up for a successful career and prepare them to hit the ground running.
Real world impact
Our teaching is accredited, applied and professional, while our research creates new knowledge with practical applications, helping to find solutions to global issues.
Access to opportunity
We've built strong links with local and international partners, creating new global opportunities while engaging with our communities and widening participation.
We make sure we have the right facilities, systems and people to deliver our strategy.

We follow a range of initiatives to achieve and maintain these values:

Our teaching excellence has been recognised by the Government
We've been awarded a silver rating for teaching excellence under the Government's Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).
We're really proud to have been recognised for our focus on personalised learning, with an emphasis on how we support graduates into employment.
In particular, the TEF panel highlighted our:
- excellent student outcomes
- excellent teaching and personalised learning
- courses that are designed to give students skills and knowledge valued by employers
Vice-Chancellor Professor David Phoenix said: "This award demonstrates the significant progress LSBU has made over the last few years in improving the experience we provide for our students."
As well as our silver TEF rating, we're in The Guardian's top 100 universities, two international university league tables, and we've been named The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018 University of the Year for Graduate Employment and Times Higher Education's Entrepreneurial University of the Year 2016.
Over the past five years, we've invested over £60m in modern teaching facilities that support and develop our students throughout their studies.
Our world-class facilities are here to support your professional and personal development. From our extensive libraries to state of the art multi-million-pound film studios, we make sure you have access to industry-standard equipment that will enrich your learning experience.
In the community
From helping young people develop their skills, to providing businesses and communities with advice and guidance, supporting our local community is at the heart of what we do.
We've established a family of like-minded education providers providing better access to both further and higher education
For 125 years we've provided professional and technical education for the people and businesses of south London. However, education today is more complex than ever before and this mission can no longer be best achieved by one organisation alone.
So we've established a new family of like-minded specialist education providers, offering learners the opportunity to transfer between technical, vocational and academic pathways and creating clear progression routes into and through the middle tier of highly skilled technical and professional roles.
The LSBU family consists of South Bank University Academy of Engineering, South Bank University Engineering UTC, LSBU and South Bank University Enterprises Ltd.
