Since its inception in 1978, Bastyr University has been a pioneer in science-based natural medicine. Founders Les Griffith, ND; William A. Mitchell, Jr., ND; and Joseph E. Pizzorno, Jr., ND; along with Sheila Quinn, named the school after their beloved teacher and noted Seattle naturopathic physician, Dr. John Bastyr. With just $200 in startup costs during their humble beginnings, the founders created a vision for an accredited natural health school that now is recognized… [+] as the leading health arts and sciences university in the world. Founding President Emeritus Dr. Pizzorno saw the University through some significant growth during his 22 years of service, including the move to the current 51-acre campus in Kenmore, Washington, to accommodate the growing student body. (See the Historical Timeline.) Although the school started as a naturopathic medicine college, Bastyr University now offers more than 20 degree and certificate programs. Building on its science-based foundation, the University has been the recipient of a number of multimillion-dollar research grants from the National Institutes of Health. In September 2012, the University expanded again, opening Bastyr University California in San Diego, welcoming more than 50 students to its inaugural Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine class. California’s first and only accredited school of naturopathic medicine also offers a Master of Science in Nutrition for Wellness and plans to add more natural health programs in the future. Our Vision As the world's leading academic center for advancing and integrating knowledge in the natural health arts and sciences, Bastyr University will transform the health and well-being of the human community. Our Mission We educate future leaders in the natural health arts and sciences. Respecting the healing power of nature and recognizing that body, mind, and spirit are intrinsically inseparable, we model an integrated approach to education, research and clinical service. Goddard is a one-of-a-kind institution of higher education with a history of creativity and chaos, invention and experimentation, of growth, decline, and reemergence. It is an institution that has survived with integrity and adherence to its founding values for nearly 150 years, with the fortitude of a pioneering spirit and the unpredictability that such a spirit can bring. The Goddard of today took shape in earnest in 1938, when a group of educators led by Royce “Tim” Pit… [+] kin proposed a Vermont “College for Living” to be located on a Plainfield sheep farm purchased from the Martin family. This new college would provide the environment for students and faculty together to build a democratic community featuring plenty of the “plain living and hard thinking” espoused in Goddard’s early mission. The aims were far-reaching, radical. These aims still influence and, with some change in nomenclature and practice, aptly describe Goddard to this day. The original, 1938 Goddard College catalog described them this way: Education for real living, through the actual facing of real-life problems as an essential part of the educational program. The study of vocation as part of living rather than as something different and an end in itself. The integration of the life of the College with the life of the community, and the consequential breaking down of the barriers that separate school from real life. The use of the community as a laboratory. The participation of students in policy making and in the performance of work essential to maintenance and operation as part of the educational program. The development of a religious attitude that is free from sectarianism recognizing that any activity which is pursued on behalf of an ideal end of universal worth is religious. The provision of educational opportunities for adults. The new college, while small in scale (starting with 50 students and a truckload of old furniture and books moved to the Martin family’s farm), was rich in inspiration, drawing on the experiences of Bennington, Sarah Lawrence, Reed, the new Antioch, Black Mountain, St. John’s, and the educational innovations of the University of Chicago. Most people in the Goddard community now associate “Kilpatrick” with the main dormitory on the Greatwood Campus in Plainfield. However, it was Dr. William Kilpatrick, an influence on founding president Tim Pitkin and in whose honor the building is named, who stated three principles key to the Goddard practice: The most fundamental fact of life is change. People learn only what they inwardly accept. Education is a moral concern. Mission To advance cultures of rigorous inquiry, collaboration, and lifelong learning, where individuals take imaginative and responsible action in the world.

Greetings! As the president of Bellevue College, I’m delighted that you have taken the time to visit our website and learn about our wonderful college, located on a beautiful wooded campus in the heart of Bellevue. BC has founded nearly 50 years ago as part of a movement to provide affordable and accessible education to citizens of the Eastside and surrounding area, and we are proud to continue this tradition today. BC is the third-largest institution of higher learning i… [+] n the state of Washington. We’re a student-focused open-access institution that places a strong emphasis on excellent teaching and small class sizes. Last year, a tremendously diverse group of 37,000 students chose BC to fulfill a variety of educational and professional goals. The majority of our students enroll in one of six transfer programs – they complete the first two years of their education here and then transfer to a university to complete their bachelor’s degrees. We send more transfer students to the University of Washington than any other community or technical college in the state. Another group of BC students are career-focused – we offer close to 100 professional and technical programs in high-demand career fields that prepare our students for the jobs of today and the opportunities of tomorrow. Others choose BC to learn English or improve their basic skills; retool their skills in our Worker Retraining program; continue their education to advance in careers with a Continuing Education class, or earn college credit while still in high school with the Running Start program. We’re working hard to ensure BC is equipped to meet the needs of students for the future. Over the next two years, we expect to add four additional bachelor’s degrees, in addition to the three programs we already offer. We’re in the process of developing a new East Campus in Issaquah that will make our classes more accessible to folks in East King County. And we plan to break ground on a state-of-the-art facility that will house our growing Health Sciences programs, educating people for jobs in the healthcare sector. After exploring this website, I invite you to visit our campus soon so you can see for yourself what makes Bellevue College so special. You can schedule a campus tour, meet with an academic advisor or discuss your career goals with a counselor. Or, if you live far from campus or prefer a flexible schedule, learn more about our extensive online offerings. Again, thank you for taking the time to learn more about Bellevue College, and I hope you will take advantage of the amazing opportunities we offer. Dave Rule President, Bellevue College

Adding to the ranks of our outstanding faculty by aggressive recruitment of new faculty who are exceptional scholars and also committed to being great teachers and student mentors. Tracking student evaluations with ambitious targets for steady improvement in the learning experience. Revising our curriculum in undergraduate and graduate programs to put more emphasis on leadership and strategic thinking.
Welcome to the School of Business and Economics at Seattle Pacific University. This is a strategic moment for students of business. With the ever-increasing globalization of commerce, business is poised to play a major role in shaping the character of our world for decades to come. In the recent past, however, many business schools have focused almost entirely on maximizing profits and have limited their instruction to the development of value-neutral skill sets. In my judgment,… [+] this one-dimensional education is simply inadequate to the challenges that lie ahead. The School of Business and Economics at Seattle Pacific University is committed to providing a high-quality business education through the lens of Christian faith and values. We are committed to the principle that for a person to be good in business, he or she must be both a highly competent person and a person of high moral character. Nationally accredited by the AACSB, the School delivers a business education distinguished by its emphasis on applied learning and infused with an emphasis on ethics and values throughout. Rather than approaching business as just a means of generating shareholder wealth we ask our students to consider "another way of doing business" - an approach that sees business as a tool for service to the community and to the world.
