Chemists are in great demand today in industry, government, and university laboratories, as the salary structure makes clear: median salaries for Ph.D., MS, and BS degree holders were $100,600, $85,000, and $73,900 a year, respectively, in 2012. The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of South Carolina is one of the best in the Southeast, with world-class research programs in Biochemistry and in Analytical, Inorganic, Organic, and Physical Chemistry. The department was recently ranked in the Top 40 in the United States by Chemical and Engineering News and has been consistently listed by the American Chemical Society as one of the top 30 programs in the country, based on Ph.D. productivity. The innovative, dynamic work of civil and environmental engineers can be seen everywhere in today's world. Civil and environmental engineers analyze, plan, design, and build structures such as buildings, bridges, and dams; infrastructure systems for transportation; water resources and natural hazard protection; and environmental control and remediation of both the natural and constructed environment. The USC Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is at the forefront of education and research, expanding in areas such as hurricane and earthquake design, sustainable development, intelligent transportation systems, high-performance and novel materials characterization, bioelectrical remediation, life-cycle analyses, nondestructive evaluation, and cardiovascular flow. The Management Department at USC focuses on such areas as entrepreneurship, strategic management, human resources, business communication, business ethics, and organizational behavior. The Department offers majors in human resources and entrepreneurship as well as a broad range of courses in areas ranging from strategic management to business communication.  To support our educational mission, the Management Department relies heavily on the Faber Center for Entrepreneurship, the Riegel & Emory Human Resource Center, the Center for Executive Succession, and the Center for Business Communication.  These centers work to support research activities, promote links between USC and the business community, and build competencies and skills among both undergraduate and graduate students.   Students in the Darla Moore School of Business who wish to major in Management may choose from a concentration in the Human Resources area or a concentration in Entrepreneurship.  These majors are designed to help students develop competencies and skills relevant across a broad range of organizational roles, as well as roles specifically involving human resources or entrepreneurship.  Class Profile: Graduates find positions throughout organizational structures in both general management and specific functional areas. The Mechanical Engineering program at the University of South Carolina allows students to study and perform interdisciplinary research with faculty from the College of Engineering and Computing as well as the USC College of Arts and Sciences and the USC Medical School. The Mechanical Engineering undergraduate program at UofSC allows students to develop various levels of expertise. The curriculum includes the following areas of concentration: design/manufacturing, mechanics/materials, thermofluid/energy sciences, and sustainable design development. Data plays a huge role in our everyday lives. In addition to studying the science of data, students work with our Statistical Consulting Laboratory providing advice to government, industry, and academia. In 2010, we celebrated our 25th anniversary as a department in the College of Arts & Sciences. It has been an eventful quarter of a century because statistics – the science of data – has become increasingly important as modern society becomes more data and information driven. Indeed, statisticians are in great demand today in various work settings, including pharmaceutical companies, insurance companies, market research firms, financial service companies, government, industry, and education. The B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees are offered. In addition, the Certificate of Graduate Study in Applied Statistics (C.A.S.) and the Master of Applied Statistics (M.A.S.) are available to students worldwide via distance (online) delivery.
