Green River College was founded in 1965 and is a government-funded college located near Seattle. We have a beautiful campus filled with tall evergreen trees, the perfect environment for study. Our top goal is student success. We serve more than 8,700 students, with over 600 international students from more than 60 countries. Green River is ranked #11 in international student enrollment among 2-year colleges in the United States (IIE, 2020-2021) and has received many other awards and distinctions such as the prestigious Paul Simon Award for Internationalization.

At Green River, international students can choose from a wide variety of transfer degrees. Our most popular majors are Engineering, Business, Computer Science, Aviation, Communication, Pre-health (medicine, dentistry, pharmacy), Information Technology, Psychology, and Art Design. Students can also finish their High School, improve their English, complete a bachelor of applied science or take classes for fun in our Gap Year program. High-quality faculty and motivated staff advise counsel and support students in their chosen educational careers, creating an encouraging atmosphere that fosters achievement.

Career & Advising

Our comprehensive services are designed to inform, support, and encourage individuals to be self-directed in the educational planning process.

At the Career and Advising Center we help with:

University Transfer

Our 2+2 transfer program offers students an opportunity to start their 4-year bachelor's degree. The transfer program provides courses equivalent to the first two years of a university degree.

University Transfer Pathway

The University Transfer Pathway (UTP) Program provides Conditional Admissions and Designated Pathways to over 40 universities in the United States and abroad.

Intensive English

For international students who want to prepare for academic study at American colleges and universities. We offer small classes and personal attention from highly qualified instructors.

High School Completion Plus

For students who want to complete high school and college credits at the same time. It’s a fast track to a US university degree and an excellent option for High School Exchange Students.

Gap Year

Provides an opportunity for students who want to study abroad in the U.S. during the year between secondary education and college.

    Admissions

    Admission Requirements

    • Please use only one method to submit your documents - email, mail, or fax.
    • Completed application
    • Financial/Bank Statement in English showing at least U.S. $21,000 for one year of study
      • The Financial/Bank Statement may include checking or savings accounts, stocks, certificates of deposit, or other easily liquidated assets. Please indicate the relationships between the sponsor and the student on the bank statement.
    • $50 non-refundable application fee
    • Copy of valid passport; and Medical Release Form
    • Applicants must be 16 years of age by program start date

    English Proficiency Requirements

    • TOEFL 61/173/500 or higher on the international TOEFL or the iBT Special Home Edition while TOEFL testing centers are closed during the COVID-19 pandemic
    • IELTS 5.5 no band lower than 5.0
    • Additional English Proficiency measures
    • Important note: You do not need an English proficiency test score to enroll at Green River. You can take the Green River English Proficiency Placement test. It will show whether you are qualified to start in the academic program or transition to academic classes through our Academic Prep or IEP classes
    • English Proficiency Test Articulations
      • Using TOEFL, IELTS, and DuoLingo
      • Correlation of English Proficiency Tests with IEP Level 1 to Academic (effective spring 2021)

    Admissions Policy

    New international students who use Green River's I-20 to enter the U.S. must:

    • Report in person to Green River's orientation for new international students
    • Enroll for and attend the first quarter at Green River.
    • Present originals of passport, visa, and Green River I-20*
    • Carry Health Insurance while enrolled at Green River

    *International students transferring from other U.S. schools must present their most recent I-20 instead of a Green River I-20.

    Visa Requirements

    Document Requirements

    Check for specific requirements in your home country. Typical documentation includes:

    • I-20 issued by Green River College
    • Visa and processing fee - paid to U.S. Embassy or Consulate
    • Photo, passport-sized
    • Valid passport
    • Completed visa application form
    • High school (and university, if available) transcripts, in English
    • TOEFL scores (if available)
    • Documents indicating reasons to return to home country after education, if available, such as:
      • Job offer or admission to an educational program upon return
      • Documentation of research you've done on your intended job in your country like translated job advertisements or quotes from newspaper or trade industry articles.
      • Statement of future plans. (Take care to demonstrate the relevance of the US course of study to those plans).
      • An indication of close personal ties in the home country (parents, spouse, children, fiancé, etc.).
      • Local identity card (indicating, if possible, your entire immediate family).
    • Financial statement(s): originals to show and photocopies to submit, for example:
      • Bank statements
      • Certificates of deposit
      • Earnings statements
      • Proof of sponsorship from a corporation or other entity
