Shih Chien University, formerly known as Shih Chien College of Home Economics, was founded in 1958 by Mr. Tung-Min Shieh. The name “Shih Chien,” which in Chinese means “practice”, was originated from the belief of Wang Yangming, a great Chinese philosopher: “Knowledge is the beginning of practice. Doing is the completion of knowing” (1498). Shih Chien University kept this motto in mind while implementing and expanding its educational vision.

In 1973, in response to the government's call for the development of national sport, Formosa Plastics Group Chairman Yung-Ching Wang donated a gymnasium, the first domestic dome in Taiwan, to the government by purchasing a land. In May 1984, for the purpose of long-term national sport development, the Ministry of Education set up a 66-hectare multi-functional sports park, including the then donated gymnasium and other expropriated private land.

The National Taiwan University of Science and Technology was founded on August 1, 1974, as the National Taiwan Institute of Technology (NTIT). It was the first higher education institution of its kind within our nation's technical and vocational education system. By extending this system to the highest level, this new school was intended to meet the need created by our rapid economic and industrial development for highly trained bachelor's degree-level engineers and managers. Christ's College was founded in 1959 by Dr. James R. Graham Ⅲ. Dr. Graham’s parents, Jimmy and Sophie Graham served as missionaries in China from 1889 to 1940, so Dr. Graham grew up in China. Chihlee University of Technology was established as Chihlee College of Business in 1965. The school name and motto were adopted in accordance to the teachings of ancient Chinese philosophers and sages: integrity, trust, professionalism and diligence. Chihlee started off with four academic departments: International Trade, Business Administration, Accounting and Statistics, and Banking and Insurance. The Department of Secretarial Science was added in 1967. In August of 2015, Chihlee Institute of Technology was renamed Chihlee University of Technology, offering Bachelor degrees and still keeping Junior College Division.

Ms. Peng Wenhong, the founder of the Republic of China, founded Wufeng Middle School in Chiayi in 1949. As the school site was occupied by the Chiayi Garrison (now 228 Park on Daya Road, diagonally opposite to Jiazhong, Province), the garrison coordinated with the municipal government to rent out land 3A of Fangcao Farm as the school site. The extension resulted in new students.
