The English Studies programme combines the academic study of literature and linguistics, ultimately leading to specialization in one of these disciplines. Through research and critical thinking about texts of many eras and genres, you will learn to develop, articulate and defend your ideas clearly and with confidence. Although all courses are conducted in English and require a level of proficiency comparable to that expected at a university in an English-speaking country, we consider the diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds of our students to be an enriching factor. Since its start in 2007, the programme has attracted students from all over the world, with as many as 40 different first languages in a single year-group. Malmö is itself a vibrantly cosmopolitan city with English as one of many languages spoken here.... [-]

Bachelor in European Studies

Campus Full time 3 years September 2018 Sweden Malmö

The programme examines the meaning and concept of Europe. In a broad sense, it gives three perspectives – the historical perspective, a focus on the European Union, and a regional perspective where the proximity to Copenhagen and the location in the middle of the Öresund region is important. [+]

We are the first generation in hundreds of years to have grown up in a Europe without war. At the same time, the early 21st century has seen new divisions and constellations that challenge the accepted European order of the last sixty years. There has never been a better time to study European Studies and gain an understanding of the continent’s history, identity and politics.

The field of European Studies combines perspectives, theories and issues from political science, history, geography, law, culture and literature studies. Europe is complex – and it plays an increasingly important role in our lives. In order to fully understand Europe and the European Union, more than one national or scientific perspective is required. This 3-year bachelor's programme provides you with a multidisciplinary approach to Europe in an international setting.... [-]

Interaction design is an exciting field at the leading edge of technology innovation. Interaction designers aim to create experiences with products, services and environments which are not just useful and usable, but very often pleasurable, expressive and desirable.

Learning interaction design is a matter of building a repertoire of methods, skills and theoretical perspectives. Importantly, you also develop a sensitivity to the critical role of stakeholders in design, the implications of design in society and your own sense of interaction aesthetics.

Innovative, considered and well-executed design adds value to products and services. Interaction designers seek to understand the people and situations they are designing for, and, drawing on their mastery of interactive technology and forms of interactivity, design artifacts and experiences to improve the situation. In this process, we extensively research, sketch, prototype and test to not just get the right design, but get the design right. Designers very often take the role as the advocate for the user, and are skilled in mediating the complex of issues and stakeholders involved in the design and production process.... [-]

Armed conflict and other forms of organised violence affect people in many parts of the world. Malmö University specialises in the subject of peace and conflict studies through its emphasis on civil society and highly relevant areas such as social movements, nonviolence, enemy images and the media.

As a student here, you will gain insight into the fundamentals of the subject, but you will also be challenged to immerse yourself in the field. The course revolves around questions such as:

Why and how do violent conflicts arise? How can violence be managed and conflict converted into peaceful conditions by peaceful means? In addition to the cessation of military and organised violence, what else is required to achieve peace? How do combatants and victims of armed conflict experience and handle their situation? What role do international organisations and civil society participants play in working for peace – locally and globally? How do they go about their work in practice? Violence can be direct, but also structural in the form of oppression. What is required to resist such violence; for example, the practice of non-violence in revolutions? What is the role of urbanisation and discrimination in violent conflicts, including in states where no war is in progress? What is the impact of the media and enemy images in the development of conflicts, and of how conflicts can be understood by the involved parties, as well as by the outside world?
