Introduction

Irkutsk National Research Technical University (INRTU) is a leading research university in Eastern Siberia and ranks among the most innovative and perspective. It provides a wide range of higher education and vocational training courses for a strong and diverse community of learners. INRTU’s motto is “knowledge for yourself, achievements for the fatherlands”.

Founded in 1930, the University includes 11 schools, a branch in Usolye-Sibirskoe city, school of secondary professional education, military training center, 100 educational and research laboratories, 2 international laboratories, 2 centers for co-working.

INRTU’s ultimate and prior goal is bringing up a new generation of specialists equipped with an array of skills and learning outcomes to succeed in a continuously changing world. The University offers 88 bachelors’ programs of 4 and 5 years of duration, 54 master's and 50 Ph.D.’s programs in schools and departments:

Every educational program promotes the open exchange of ideas and an atmosphere of mutual respect and integrity. Currently, the University has 18000 Russian and foreign students enrolled in 192 high education programs and 15 vocational training courses, including 1500 full-time foreign students. Each year we train at least 150 foundation year international students, arrange summer and winter schools for more than 300 international students. In 2010, INRTU obtained a status of "National Research University". In 2017, INRTU won the priority project of the government of the Russian Federation "Universities as centers of innovation creation space".

This status implies that INRTU serves the best regional interests in creating the vital ecosystem that enables the implementation of perspective innovative projects and positively impacts the economic and social sector of the Irkutsk region.

In 2017, INRTU launched the Baikal School of BRICS where students from different countries study full-time English-taught bachelors’ and masters’ programs. Students of this school acquire high-quality education being surrounded by English speaking group mates from Russia, China, Brazil, India, South Africa, and other countries as well.

Starting from the first year, distinguished Russian and foreign professors provide students with new topical knowledge and skills, deliver masterclasses and business training sessions, develop analytical thinking and teach to apply project approach to the solution of the tasks which they are faced with. INRTU is a training platform for leaders who will head companies and national structures in Russia and BRICS countries’ regions in the future.

One cannot deny the unparalleled contribution of INRTU in the construction of the most sophisticated domestically built civil airplane. Besides, INRTU provides services to foreign companies in such various areas as oil and gas exploration, composite machining, chemical synthesis engineering, BIM technologies in construction, ecology risks assessment, and integrated ecological modeling.
