UCD College of Engineering and Architecture

The UCD College of Engineering and Architecture is the largest and most comprehensive College of its kind in Ireland.
There are six Schools covering the Engineering disciplines of Biosystems and Food, Chemical & Bioprocess, Civil, Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical and Materials Engineering, together with the disciplines of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Planning & Environmental Policy.
The College offers a wide range of taught and research programmes and is committed to the ongoing development of both discipline-specific and interdisciplinary teaching and research. Faculty in the College of Engineering & Architecture have been very successful in winning competitive research contracts from a number of national and international bodies including the European Commission, the European Research Council (ERC), the European Space Agency, Science Foundation Ireland, and Enterprise Ireland.

To date the College hosts five ERC award holders and 2015 RIAI Gold Medal winners Sheila O'Donnell and John Tuomey, who are both graduates and staff of the UCD School of Architecture, Planning & Environmental Policy.

Furthermore, data from Thomson Reuters InCites indicates that the College’s publication impact in Engineering & Technology is 52% above world average.

Much of the research in the College is applied to real-world problems, and is finally commercialised in spin-off companies. Recent start-ups include OxyMem, APC Ltd and Bianca Med (acquired by ResMed in 2011). We have also become increasingly involved in collaborative research with industry, and such projects often produce market-facing innovations which can be directly applied in a commercial environment.
