Kajaani University of Applied Sciences (KAMK) is proactive, genuinely international university of applied sciences with a strong regional and national profile. The international learning and development community operates in its own compact campus area located in Kajaani's impressive natural surroundings.
The operations and organizational structure of KAMK are based on five areas of competence: Activity Tourism, Information Systems, Nursing and Healthcare, Mechanical and Mining Engineering and Business and Innovations. Our three fields of focus, activity tourism, games and vehicle information systems, serve to provide us with international competence, visibility and impact. The competence areas are linked to the fields of focus by expertise, i.e. competences. The competence area resources and project activities are channelled into supporting the development of the fields of focus.
The Kajaani University of Applied Sciences' strategy is based on regional strategies of Kainuu implementing the national higher education policy and promoting KAMK’s position and impact as part of Finland’s higher education system. KAMK plays a significant role in the region in guaranteeing the availability of expertise, experts and RDI operations required in the development and support of internationalization of business and commerce in Kainuu. KAMK has achieved great success in Finland in Ministry of Education and Culture outcome barometers. In particular, the quality of teaching and counselling has been considered the best in Finland for several years running. According to a survey published in Talouselämä magazine in 2011, KAMK was the best university of applied sciences in Finland based on several indicators.
