Introduction

For those who think and calculate outside the box. Analyzers and modelers. Bleeding-hearts and doubters. Those who are disciplined and irritated. Yes-men and naysayers. Those who are decided and hesitant. Please note: German language skills required!

S.P.E. is a study program taught in German. Among others, it addresses the following questions: How do you formulate the basic concepts of power, money, law, of war and peace, of games and machinations? What is the difference between society on the one hand, and politics and economic activity on the other? How is the market economy changing under the conditions of international political coordination? How does a democracy work under the conditions of multinational corporations, speculative capital markets, and fluctuating protest movements? To what extent do social inequality, poverty, and exclusion threaten social peace? How do politics and law shape the conflicts of global society? How do migration and urbanization change people´s living conditions?

Interdisciplinary way

Based on topics such as urbanity, sustainability or migration, the study program S.P.E. combines the points of view of the disciplines of sociology, political science, and economics. S.P.E. students work in an interdisciplinary way in order to find comprehensive solutions to the important questions of our society. The study program is to enable them to deal with the problems, dates, ideas, and arguments of different social fields of activity in a knowledge-based and discursive way. The study program enables you to do both: to continue your studies in advanced master programs, or to acquire professional skills to support decision-making processes, to define and solve problems, and to reflect on alternative chances for orientation.

The graduates of the study program take over responsibility in the internal and external diagnosis, consulting, and shaping of political projects, entrepreneurial investments, social and technical innovations, organizational development, problems of the church, academic research, and journalistic reporting.
