Introduction
Two majors are available: management information systems and supply chain management.
The management information systems major trains students for careers in systems analysis, business systems design, and information technology management. The program strongly emphasizes business and organizational studies as well as information systems technology. Students in this program will study business systems analysis, business systems design, and computer programming. Other technical and business areas in the program focus on developing, implementing, and maintaining information systems in a variety of organizational settings. The program includes course work in information system design and development methodologies, database management systems, electronic business, and data communications. The program also covers business fundamentals in accounting, finance, marketing, management, and operations management.
Business Analytics Concentration
This concentration will provide content knowledge in the field of business analytics to students enrolled in the MIS Major. This is a new discipline in business that encourages organizations to examine their existing stores of data to discern possible trends or patterns which have been hidden heretofore. Moreover, today’s business analytics extends the work historically relegated to the area of data warehousing and data mining by including current–even up to the moment–data in the analysis.
Why Choose Management Information Systems?
Businesses, nonprofits, and government agencies are increasingly relying on data to drive decision-making, increase productivity and profitability. Every action we take, from donating blood to buying groceries, is recorded and analyzed to better serve you. Graduates who can make sound decisions when choosing, implementing, and using these systems are in high demand locally, nationally, and globally.
Our program was the first business school program in Ohio accredited by the Computer Accreditation Commission of Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) and one of the first twenty programs nationally to achieve this accreditation. If you are curious, passionate about innovation, and like solving problems, a degree in management information systems will prepare you to excel in a wide variety of career paths and industries.
