BA in History Pre-Law

In general, there is no specific program or set of courses required for those who wish to pursue study of the law, nor are students expected to have substantial knowledge of the law prior to law school. Instead, law schools look at a student’s overall resume. A student interested in law school should pursue an academic background that emphasizes and cultivates reading, writing, and verbal analytical skills along with a study of society from political, economic, cultural, and philosophical perspectives.

Possible Pre-Law Courses

No specific courses are required for law school admittance or attendance. However, law schools are interested in students who demonstrate reading, writing, and analytical skills. Familiarity with the social, political, and cultural conditions out of which law is created can also be beneficial.

Below is a list of regularly taught courses that develop skills appropriate to law school, which may also help students gauge their interest in the subject matter. This list of courses is not intended to be exhaustive. Students should work with their advisor to find courses that best fit one’s schedule and overall goals.
