Introduction
The German major at Wartburg College is shaped by international experiences designed to increase your language proficiency and immerse you in another culture. This in-depth study of another culture coupled with living abroad for an extended period will give you insight into how other cultures view the world, as well as a better understanding of American culture. This major will provide you with exciting opportunities to explore language, literature, and culture and to develop writing skills applicable in a variety of fields.
We offer excellent study abroad May Term opportunities in Germany, including a faculty-led language and culture program in Marburg and an internship program in Eisenach, home of the Wartburg Castle.
As a junior or senior, German majors study in Germany for a semester, either at the University of Bonn or the University of Jena. German Studies majors may choose to study abroad for a semester or take additional electives to complete the major.
Wartburg’s Bingham earns Fulbright award to Germany
Wartburg College senior Emily Bingham was selected by the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board for a Fulbright award to Germany through the program’s English Teaching Assistant Program.
Bingham, who is graduating with majors in international relations and German studies, will spend the 2020-21 school year in Germany, but has yet to learn where in the country she will be placed. The ETA Program places recent college graduates and young professionals as English teaching assistants in primary and secondary schools or universities to help improve foreign students’ English language abilities and knowledge of the United States while increasing the U.S. student’s own language skills and knowledge of the host country
