Introduction
The rising importance of investments and the growing complexity of financial services has led to greater demand for finance professionals. University of Tampa finance majors learn how to manage money in areas such as investments, corporate finance, international financial management, and financial institutions and markets.
The finance degree program offers instruction in all areas of business through courses in accounting, managerial statistics, computer information systems, economics, marketing, and management. This is combined with contemporary studies in managerial finance, investments, financial institutions, and international finance.
Finance degree students are prepared for careers in commercial banking, individual and institutional investments, financial services, private industry, and government. UT's Finance sequence is also good preparation for the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) or CFP (Certified Financial Planner) designations.
Students may participate in the Bailey Student Investment Fund. The fund was initiated with a $100,000 donation of capital that is managed by the students taking the Applied Investment Management course (FIN 415). The program also includes the opportunity to become Bloomberg certified.
In addition to the full-time day program, students can earn the Bachelor of Science in Finance part-time at night through UT's Continuing Studies Program.

Applied projects bring the real world into the classroom by encouraging student interactions in the management of investment portfolios and corporate financial decisions.
The Bailey Student Investment Fund is one example of experiential education opportunities in the finance curriculum. The fund is managed by a class of undergraduate students who analyze specific securities and make all investment decisions. The fund began with $100,000 about 10 years ago and was recently valued at $180,000.
Internships and other hands-on projects take advantage of Tampa’s status as a regional center for business and finance, granting students access to financial institutions such as Citi, PwC, T. Rowe Price, and Raymond James Financial Services which have significant local operations.
Students also interact with the business community through in-class consulting projects, professional guest speakers, field trips, and international programs.
