Studying history helps you to become a critical thinker, an independent researcher, and a conscientious global citizen. As a historian, you learn about past societies and examine the processes that underlie global and local events. You learn how to carefully weigh the evidence and come to well-supported conclusions. You also learn how to critically respond to the arguments of others. You will know answers to some big questions, such as Why did China build the Great Wall? Why did Karl Marx think all workers were in chains? And other important questions related to the History of the Pacific Islands.

History prepares you well for many jobs in which you need good critical thinking and writing skills.
