Career Opportunities
The Degree Course in Social Work is aimed at training graduates for the social worker professionalism. The social worker works closely with people or families in serious situations of social hardship and / or vulnerability, also carrying out preventive activities. The categories that usually benefit from this professionalism are minors, the elderly, drug addicts, the disabled and immigrants.
Before passing a State exam, the three-year graduate in Social Work can enroll in the professional category B, and therefore exercise the profession of social worker. The registration to the Register also includes the performance of a professional activity.
Social workers can work both in the public and private sectors with activities that can range from the functions of social worker to more organizational and coordination tasks. In particular it is possible to find employment in ministries, hospitals, local health centers, private clinics, family houses, prisons, reception centers, children’s courts, addiction centers, as well as in research activities (ie universities and research institutes).
Typical areas of work are hospitals and public health local units, municipalities and their consortia, the external penal execution office and the social service office for minors of the Ministry of Justice and all the bodies and institutions that use the professionalism of ‘Social worker; moreover, social workers are increasingly required by the non-profit sector (for example in social cooperatives) in the management of health and care homes, day care centers, family houses, etc.
