Note: For the 2+2 study model courses, the student will spend the last two years at our UK campus. For the 4+0 study model courses, the student will spend the entire degree program in Ningbo, China with 'study abroad' opportunities from year three.
Course overview
Mechanical engineering is the broadest of all the engineering disciplines and graduates find employment in every sector of industry.
We apply our scientific knowledge to solving problems and designing machines that help us to enjoy a better lifestyle. We work in every sector of industry, in areas such as design, development, research, consultancy, and manufacture or marketing, combining technical and managerial expertise.
The course provides an excellent foundation in engineering science and design and also offers opportunities to develop specialist knowledge in areas such as automotive and aerospace engineering.

Course structure
For domestic students, the course structure follows the Chinese higher education system. It is based on a four-year programme with the possibility of spending two years at the University of Nottingham's UK campus.
For international students, the course structure follows the UK higher education system. It is based on a three-year programme with the possibility of spending two years at the University of Nottingham's UK campus.

Historically nearly 30% of our undergraduate students were awarded scholarships for their entry. Once enrolled, current students are eligible for additional merit and/or performance-based scholarships and awards, which cover approximately 32.5% of our whole student body.

Further study
Out of 40 graduates from the BEng Hons Mechanical Engineering in 2023, 39 chose to continue their studies.
Among students going into further study, 79.5% were admitted into top 50 universities worldwide. In addition, 1 graduate was admitted into the PhD programme at University of Michigan - Ann Arbor.
