Introduction
If you want to use your creative and analytical skills in order to seek and satisfy the needs of consumers, then the marketing major is for you. With the advent of the information explosion, newer analytical and tech approaches, marketing is experiencing an exciting revolution that we will help prepare you for.
As a marketing major, you'll learn how to understand and apply marketing principles in order to make business decisions on products/services, promotion, logistics, and pricing, all while remaining focused on the consumer's wants and needs.
By the time you graduate, you'll be able to leverage your skills to persuade and acquire customers for any product or company. Through our in-class activities and internship programs, you will learn by doing and be prepared to work for global companies throughout Georgia and beyond.
Marketing Majors Choose from One of Three Concentrations
- Digital Marketing
- General Marketing
- Professional Selling
Marketing is the second largest major in the Mike Cottrell College of Business. With our marketing concentrations and courses in other areas such as advertising, you can earn well-rounded training either in specialized or generalized areas of marketing.
Our professional selling students have competed in both regional and national sales pitch competitions and earned top awards. Our digital marketing students earn multiple certifications before they graduate.

Curriculum
What Your Journey as a Marketing Major Could Look Like
Your First Year
All UNG students take the same core curriculum in the first year of college. While there is some flexibility with the courses you can choose, certain required areas have to be fulfilled. This is the year to think about your curriculum options and discuss with faculty members and professional advisors.
Sophomore Year
As you finish your core classes, you'll begin exploring courses in the business program that will be required to complete your marketing degree. These courses include accounting, economics, business law, and computer information systems courses. Get involved and meet people who love marketing like you! Consider joining the UNG Chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA). Learn more about student organizations for business majors.
Junior Year
Now you'll be almost fully immersed in your business major classes. You'll continue with your business courses, known as the B.B.A. Common Professional Component, where you'll be exposed to all aspects of the business - finance, marketing, statistics, operations, info systems, and international business. As a marketing major, you'll start taking your foundational courses in this area.
This is also the year to consider internships. Students can complete up to two internships that can count as credit courses toward their degree.
Senior Year
During this year, you'll enroll in experiential marketing courses and engage in the concentration of choice – digital marketing, professional selling, or general marketing. You'll begin to interact with companies and clients as part of your coursework and internships. You'll also be involved in professional development activities that train you on soft skills so you can excel in interviews and networking in order to be market-ready and successfully land a great job.
