Introduction
Whether you aim to build your career in small, medium or large enterprises, or launch a business of your own, you must learn to identify opportunities, rise to challenges and adapt to change. Our Bachelor of Business is uniquely positioned to help you do this.
Our hands-on teaching and mentoring will transform you into a flexible all-rounder, able to apply your knowledge in a range of industries and occupations. You will hone your financial, critical analysis, decision-making and communication skills – attributes that are highly valued in any dynamic work environment.
Why study a Bachelor of Business with UNE?
We’re highly rated - year after year, students award UNE the maximum 5-star ratings for Overall Experience and Student Support in The Good Universities Guide, so you know you are in good hands.
With 10 majors to choose from, our undergraduate business course gives you the flexibility to pursue a diverse range of career paths.
Australian Defence Force personnel with four years or more experience, who have completed the Australian Defence Force Army All-Corps Captain, Sergeant, Warrant Officer or Chief Petty Officer course and an ADF-approved diploma, may be eligible to enter this program based on their military qualifications and Defence Force work experience (see Course rules and plans).
If you have an approved Diploma from an Australian TAFE or Registered Training Organisation you may be eligible for credit for your diploma which will enable you to complete this course in a reduced timeframe.
What makes our course different?
This course will help you adapt to the demands of a role as a manager with leadership responsibilities for creating a more inclusive and sustainable global economy. Strengthening your skills and knowledge by studying this course will give you an edge in the dynamic and competitive world of business. You will have the opportunity to:
- Enhance your foundation in business by bolstering your skills in creative thinking, critical analysis, communication and strategic decision making.
- Consolidate your understanding of regional and global business trends, while assessing ethical, social and environmental implications of business decisions.
- Apply contemporary business theory and practice to hypothetical and real-world case studies.
- Study a language within your elective units if you see international opportunities in your future — Chinese (Mandarin), French, German, Italian, Indonesian, Japanese and Spanish are all available.
- Consider an international exchange and study a trimester at one of UNE's partner universities to build your global perspective, or undertake our Overseas Study Experience unit and travel overseas with fellow students on a guided tour of large multi-national businesses in Asia.
- Accelerate your degree or combine it with periods of full-time employment with online learning support and optional Trimester 3 units.
- Undertake a work placement and have it count towards your degree, so you can apply your academic knowledge to the real world.
- Start up your own business as part of our Business in Action unit where you will be mentored through the start-up phase with our SMART Region Incubator.
- Contribute to our SMART Region Incubator which is run by the Business School and provides a supportive community for start-ups in the region. As a student you can be part of this lively entrepreneurial network.
- Choose options to study on campus or online, allowing you to balance your studies with your work and personal commitments. You can even choose to study on campus but take some units online, giving you the flexibility to tailor your study program to meet your objectives.
Our flexible course allows you to complete either one or two majors (see list below) and select from a wide range of units, allowing you to focus the direction of your studies, or keep your options open. If you choose only one major, you need to choose a further 8 units, which can be chosen from any discipline across the university in order to truly broaden your learning experience.
Completion of the Accounting major plus four additional units will qualify you for admission to the major professional accounting bodies (CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants ANZ and the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA)). Choose this option if you want to qualify as an accountant but also want a broad set of business skills. You can also choose to specialise in accounting in our Bachelor of Accounting.
The Human Resource Management Major is accredited with the Australian Human Resources Institute (AHRI).
When you graduate, your major or majors will be identified on your testamur and transcript. For example, if you choose the major in Human Resource Management you will graduate with a Bachelor of Business (Human Resource Management). Or, if you take two majors such as International Business and Accounting, you will graduate with a Bachelor of Business (International Business) (Accounting).

Uniquely, our online students are mostly over 30 and bring valuable experience with them. They form a community of adults juggling the same challenges and priorities and who bring their life and work experience together at UNE in order to become future-fit and better respond to a rapidly changing world.
Study on campus
Many of our students choose to take advantage of the on-campus lifestyle in Armidale, in the beautiful New England region, with access to unparalleled support, accommodation and sporting facilities. These students are often starting their first degree and have left school recently. Through access to academic and career support they get a fantastic start to their careers.
24/7 tutor support includes: essay feedback (within 24 hours); live chat 24/7 for generic feedback on academic writing; and subject-specific help at a foundation or first-year level for subjects including mathematics, chemistry, biology, physics, business, accounting, microeconomics, macroeconomics and statistics.
