Introduction
The Missouri School of Journalism is where storytellers of all kinds can find their voices by using them first. This hands-on philosophy of learning-by-doing was deemed “the Missouri Method.” Today, the Missouri Method allows students to gain hands-on, career-ready experience in six professional newsrooms – including a National Broadcasting Company (NBC) affiliate, an National Public Radio (NPR) member station, a digital-first community newspaper – and two advertising agencies with paid local, state, and national clients.
Wherever you want to go, a journalism degree can get you there. For more than a century, our School has combined the time-honored tenets of journalism with the industry’s latest technology and news-delivery methods. Missouri journalism students gain hands-on experience in professional newsrooms. They learn how to tell stories that answer the six fundamental journalism questions: who, what, when, where, why, and how. Students will gain the skills needed to engage, entertain, and inspire audiences across platforms and interests. And the best part? Our philosophy of learning-by-doing will take you far beyond the walls of a classroom. Report breaking news via social media. Produce the next game-changing documentary. Or cover an SEC bowl game for an NBC affiliate. Your story is waiting to be written. How you tell it is up to you!
