Introduction
Be inspired by art and visual culture, and make your mark on the world. Work with internationally active artists and scholars as you pursue your professional and creative goals in a collaborative environment.
Develop your voice as an independent artist or arts professional through an intensive studio experience exploring technical, aesthetic, and theoretical studies necessary to pursue contemporary art. Receive instruction in a range of materials and methods in drawing, painting, sculpture, installation, performance art, photography, printmaking, media and electronic art. Senior students pursue self-directed studio work in a capstone course supported by faculty members of their choice.
As a student teacher, you have 27 weeks of practical classroom experience in a broad range of schools from rural to urban and elementary to secondary with a focus on your teachable area. As part of a graduating class of superior educators, the University of Lethbridge’s Faculty of Education teacher preparation is nationally recognized for its excellence.
Which Faculty to choose?
Both the Bachelor of Arts (Art) or a Bachelor of Fine Arts – Art combined with a Bachelor of Education programs are 5-year combined degrees with K-12 experience through the Faculty of Education. Choosing between the two programs is dependent on the amount of art courses you would like to have in your major.
The Bachelor of Fine Arts - Art/Bachelor of Education stream offers a more focused fine arts approach that allows you to build expertise in the art field and enables you to take the reins of secondary-level art education.
Students who are interested in teaching elementary school are encouraged to pursue the Bachelor of Arts (Art)/Bachelor of Education degree. The flexibility of this stream will allow students to gain a diversified set of qualifications which better meet the needs of multi-subject teaching common in elementary schools.
Degree Length
- 5 Years (combined degrees)
