Introduction
Accountants are central to the operations and strategies of all types of organizations as well as the foundation of short- and long-term success. As an accountant, you’ll provide business and financial advice by measuring, analyzing, forecasting and reporting organizational performance, resources and risk. You’ll be required to have integrity and the ability to think critically, communicate, and interact with others effectively.
As a student in accounting you'll gain technical skills and learn how to address a broad range of business problems. You will acquire and practice the skills needed for success, including writing and presenting, using professional tools and case analyses. You’ll study financial reporting, individual and corporate taxation, business analytics and information systems, auditing, management control systems and costing, as well as a variety of other management disciplines.
You can also choose a minor to enhance your knowledge in a secondary line of study. Many minors complement accounting well such as computer science, economics, family and small business management, indigenous business management, international management, and supply chain and operations management. Learn more about our available minors.
Why take accounting at the Dhillon School of Business?
Have big accounting dreams? Our courses provide the necessary academic background for entry into the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) Professional Education Program (PEP), the path to Canada’s pre-eminent business and accounting designation. Learn more about CPA Alberta.
Many of our students also enrol in cooperative education while at the Dhillon School of Business. Co-op allows you to get paid work experience before you graduate and can even help you land a job immediately after graduation.
We also have options for individuals farther on in their careers who are looking for an accounting education. Our Post-Bachelor Certificates in Accounting allow you to get CPA-ready fast, even if your degree is in another line of study. They can also enhance your skills for the Canadian accounting environment if you already have a background in accounting from another country. All certificates are recognized for entry into the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP).
