Introduction

Anthropology focuses on the systematic study of human beings, their antecedents and related primates, and their cultural behavior and institutions, in comparative perspective. Includes instruction in biological/physical anthropology, primatology, human paleontology and prehistoric archeology, hominid evolution, anthropological linguistics, ethnography, ethnology, ethnohistory, socio-cultural anthropology, psychological anthropology, research methods, and applications to areas such as medicine, forensic pathology, museum studies, and international affairs.

Studying Anthropology at the University of Cincinnati provides students with a unique combination of analytical skills and firsthand engagement with the complexities of global human diversity. In the bachelor’s program, students gain broad training in the methods and theory of the four subfields of the discipline: sociocultural anthropology, biological anthropology, archaeology, and linguistics. Students may also add a minor in the field, which pairs well with majors in Biology, Geography, History, Spanish and many others. Students wishing to further their studies after graduation may choose the master’s program, which has a strong tradition of graduate training with diverse opportunities for graduate student involvement in research in and near Cincinnati and abroad. Students wishing to add to their studies can choose one of the many related certificate programs including Critical Visions and Historic Preservation.

The University of Cincinnati offers undergraduate and graduate program options, including the MA. Anthropology students at UC actively participate in faculty research in labs and field sites locally, nationally, and internationally. They also have the opportunity to pursue their own independent research and receive funding, credit, or both to do so.
