Robotics is an innovative and rapidly growing field of technology. Today, robots can be found in many areas of industry and everyday life and their importance is steadily growing.

Since the introduction in the second half of the last century, robots have developed into sophisticated and highly complex systems. More than ever, the design and implementation of robot systems require a sound academic education. For this purpose, the FHWS and industrial partners have developed the Bachelor's program Robotics. The bachelor’s program prepares prospective engineers for future challenges in the area of robotics with a mix of theoretical and practical education and opens the door to a promising field of employment.

This English-taught Bachelor‘s program is designed as a TWIN program alongside the existing German-taught Bachelor’s program Robotik. TWIN programs enable you to complete your studies in both German and English. You will also do cultural and linguistic training when studying those TWIN programs.

If you fulfill all requirements for a TWIN program, you will receive a TWIN Certificate at the end of your studies. It proves that you completed your studies in both languages and are more than qualified for a successful career in the German and international labor market.

Program Structure

The Bachelor’s program Robotics is divided into three sections. The first section covers the basic study period from the 1st to the 4th semester. In this section, students learn about the basics of computer science, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering as well as soft skills. In the following practical semester (5th semester) students gain professional experience in a company. Finally, there is the specialization study period in the 6th and 7th semesters. In this section, students have the opportunity to accentuate their education with lectures in a special area of robotics. In addition, the 7th semester includes the preparation of the bachelor thesis.

A central component of the study program is practical courses, which take place in each semester of the basic and specialization study period. True to the motto "Learning by doing", students consolidate their theoretical knowledge through practical training.

Special conditions

As part of the 'TWIN Bachelor's Degree program', students in the Robotik/Robotics program have the opportunity to switch between German and English-language bachelor programs with identical content. This ensures the transfer of a combination of professional, cultural, and linguistic skills, with the aim of internationalizing the degree. Moreover, graduates have the opportunity to apply for master's degree programs in the faculties of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Science and Business Information Systems.

Career Perspectives

Driven by the digitization of production (Industry 4.0) and recent progress in artificial intelligence (AI), there is a growing need for robots. This results in high and long-term demand for academically qualified robotics engineers. In addition to robotics, the bachelor‘s program also qualifies students for cross-sectional activities in the fields of computer science, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering.
