Introduction
The beginnings of horticultural higher education in Cluj coincided with the establishment, in 1869, of the Institute of Agriculture in Cluj, which today became the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine Cluj-Napoca. In 1977, the Department of Horticulture was established within the Faculty of Agronomy. The development of human resources and of new disciplines and research laboratories within this section allowed the establishment of the Faculty of Horticulture, in 1990.
Currently, at the Faculty of Horticulture in Cluj-Napoca, more than 1600 students study in day education, bachelor's and master's degree, to which are added distance education students and full-time or part-time doctoral students. The faculty has a technical-didactic and modern research base, specialized, tenured and associated teachers, who form a recognized academic body in the country and abroad.
