Introduction

Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) is a leading university in engineering technology established on 20 August 2002.

Wholly owned by Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), the university is given the mandate to upgrade the status of technical education in Malaysia by the government.

As the nation expects more from technical higher learning institutions, UniKL grooms its graduate with strong technological knowledge and astute entrepreneurial skills who would later fulfill the current demand of the industries. UniKL’s 13 branch institutes offer various foundation, diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate programs. With the concept of ‘One Institute, One Specialisation’, UniKL contributes not only to tertiary education but also to research and development for commercialization purposes.

Strategically located all over peninsular Malaysia, UniKL’s branch institutes offer various programs in their niche areas of specialization. At present, UniKL boasts a total of 22,372 students.

Since its inception, UniKL has produced 56,293 graduates including 7,998 graduates celebrated in the 15th Convocation Ceremony 2018. Graduates of UniKL have successfully established their careers or become successful entrepreneurs in local and international arenas.

UniKL has produced 56,293 graduates since 2005 when the pioneer batch of students graduated. In 2018, UniKL is rated as one of the top universities in Asia, ranked 351 out of 7,700 accredited universities in the region.

    Centre of Excellence

    In line with its new business direction to become one of the Top Universities in Asia by 2020, the University has established the following Centres to execute its strategic initiatives. The Centres are:

    Asia Rail Centre

    On 23 March 2016, MARA established what became the first national higher institute focusing on rail technology, the Asia Rail Centre under the purview of UniKL. It offers professional courses, licensed programs, and customized courses for the professional development of the rail industry workforce in Malaysia. Asia Rail will act as a Centre of Excellence for the rail industry to cater to future demand for quality human capital in the nation and region.

    Centre for Rural Economic Development (CRED)

    The Centre for Rural Economic Development (CRED) is a center that focuses on communicating and implementing development policies, especially in the area of entrepreneurship and education. CRED encourages the participation and development of entrepreneurs while creating income opportunities and sustainable businesses in rural communities.

    Asia Food Centre

    Asia Food Validation Centre or ASIA FOOD is manufacturing, processing, and validation center developed by MARA to provide food entrepreneurs with comprehensive training, support, and consultation services in food technology and manufacturing. With state-of-the-art facilities and expert trainers from UniKL who are experienced and certified in their field, ASIA FOOD is under the purview of UniKL Malaysian Institute of Chemical & Bioengineering Technology (UniKL MICET).
