About

The International University of the Americas (UIA) is a private university in Costa Rica, founded in 1986, through the National Council for Private University Education (CONESUP). It was the first private university in Costa Rica to be approved by this body. Its main campus is located in the Aranjuez neighborhood, in San José, and it also has an office in the city of Heredia.

History of the University

On April 24, 1986, the opening of the International University of the Americas was approved by the National Council for Private University Education (CONESUP), this being the first private university higher education institution approved by this body. He began his work in a building located to the east of the capital in the Barrio La California, where Business Administration, Preschool Education, International Trade, Computer Engineering, Industrial Engineering, English and Tourism were taught.

At the end of the eighties and the beginning of the nineties, the new campus was built where today the facilities of the main headquarters are located, located on Calle 23 and Avenida 7 bis in the Aranjuez neighborhood of the city of San José, in front of the complex Cultural Former Customs. Currently, the International University of the Americas has 21 majors that cover the areas of health, engineering, architecture, economics, social sciences, and languages ​​in baccalaureate, bachelor's, and master's degrees.

The University was born with the slogan of being a benchmark in private higher education, which has become evident over the years, leaving its mark on the training of professionals integrated into the labor market. Today we want to continue history moving towards the future with optimism, constantly renewing ourselves, adopting new teaching methodologies in accordance with the demands of the time, expanding our resources for research and projecting ourselves with greater force to society to detonate change.

Enrollment of New Students

  • 2 passport size photographs, front without stamps.
  • Copy of identification (identity card, passport).
  • Enrollment form duly filled out.
  • Original and copy of the Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education or its equivalent.
  • For Baccalaureate in Secondary Education or High School Diplomas obtained abroad, present the original Baccalaureate in Secondary Education and apostille or authentic consular documents, and a foreign degree recognition document issued by a Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Public Education.

Subjetc Validation Process

  • Copy of valid identification document on both sides.
  • Students graduated from other universities, who wish to have their credits validated, must present the original certificate of approved subjects and the study programs of each subject signed and stamped in original by their University of origin.
  • The subject validation process has a maximum period of three months to be formalized and cancelled.

Student Permit

The International University of the Americas is accredited by the National Directorate of Migration and Immigration, which allows it to collaborate in the processing of the student permit or visa, when the student is in the country.

When the student applicant is accepted by the UIA to do their mobility, stay or internship, the Secretariat for International Affairs issues a letter of acceptance in their name, addressed to the Costa Rican Consulate in their country of origin. This document is the basis for managing the granting of your visa.

To manage the DIMEX or Foreigner Identity Document, which enables you to study in Costa Rica, the applicant is required to present the following documents:

  • Cover letter issued by the competent authority in International Relations of the home university.
  • Original recent birth certificate (maximum 2 months of issue) duly Apostilled.
  • Original criminal record certificate, (maximum 2 months of issuance) duly Apostilled.
