Introduction
This Bachelor’s programme is one of a kind in Flanders, focusing on the intersection of sociology and economics.
The Bachelor of Social-Economic Sciences has a strong international focus. The theory discussed in class will be illustrated by means of international cases and examples. Furthermore this English-taught programme has the potential to attract people from all over the world, so you will be able to start building international networks while still in the classroom.
You’ll have the opportunity to immerse yourself in social sciences as well as economics, statistics, etc. This provides you with a unique set of soft and hard skills, which is highly appreciated on the job market.

During your first year, the broad curriculum will introduce you to several different fields. This will help you discover where your interests lie and make a choice for a major in Business Economics, Economic Analysis, Social-economic Analysis or Sociological Analysis in the second and third year.

Program Outcome
1. The Bachelor will be able to describe and allude to the most important basic concepts, theories, paradigms and research topics within the disciplines of sociology and economics from a scientific and multidisciplinary perspective.
2. The Bachelor will possess knowledge of (inter)national institutional frameworks and societal structures. The bachelor will be familiar with the structure, functioning and the current problems of the welfare state and the Economy, and he/she will have insight into processes of collective decision-making and the political structures and systems (constitutional state, democracy) within which these processes take place.
3. The Bachelor will possess a basic understanding of business concepts.
4. The Bachelor has basic knowledge of related human-scientific disciplines (e.g. law, history and psychology or anthropology) and will be able to apply this knowledge in a multi- or interdisciplinary (inter)national policy problem.
5. The Bachelor will be able to compare, integrate and synthesise concepts and conceptual frameworks from various disciplines – particularly economics and sociology – from an interdisciplinary perspective.
6. The Bachelor will be able to process scientific knowledge – particularly from the fields of economics and sociology – within policy-oriented contexts.
7. The Bachelor will be able to adopt adequate statistical and econometric research methods to analyze policy problems.
8. The Bachelor will be able to use methodological training to understand scientific or policy-oriented research and to conduct original research assisted by external supervision.
9. The Bachelor has a number of important academic skills, including logical reasoning, analytical thinking, argumentation, critical coping with a multiplicity of traditional and modern (inter)national sources (e.g. professional literature, research reports, policy documents and data files). The Bachelor will also recognize the importance of lifelong learning.
10. The Bachelor has oral and written communication skills in English, as well as in at least one foreign language (French, German or Spanish) to communicate about (business)economic and socially relevant topics.
11. The Bachelor has the necessary skills to work easily with others and to function within an (inter)national multi-disciplinary partnership.
12. The Bachelor will be open and tolerant towards various political, cultural and religious beliefs, and will have a sense of social and ethical responsibility.
