What to Expect
As a student in Trevecca’s Bachelor of Arts in history program, you’ll learn how your understanding of history shapes your perception of, interaction with, and reaction to the present. Through challenging and engaging courses on societies around the world from all time periods, you’ll begin to see how history continues to affect our present social, historical, and political experiences. The program offers incredible flexibility for tailoring your degree through course options that match your interests and goals.
Your education continues beyond the classroom with special projects and research opportunities designed to provide hands-on field experience. Recent Faculty-Led Academic Research Experience (FLARE) projects have given students the chance to study local historical figures; create websites featuring online narratives developed from primary source materials; and conduct digital and oral history research to understand and chronicle the neighborhood surrounding Trevecca. Our Tennessee Intercollegiate State Legislature course allows you to participate in moot court competitions and mock legislature where you can write and debate bills before an audience of peers from around the state. You can also gain valuable internship experience in the thriving Nashville market. Past students have interned at local historic sites and museums like Belmont Mansion and the Frist, as well as at local law firms.
The program also offers pre-law advising, which is typically organized around a history major with a public policy or criminal justice minor. Faculty members help pre-law students tailor their coursework to maximize their chances of earning acceptance to law school.
