Become an "Innovative Problem Solver" in an increasingly diverse and complex global society
The Department of Global Innovation Studies Innovation fosters "Innovative Problem Solvers" who are able to accurately grasp the complex issues of global society and communicate with others to come up with innovative and creative solutions in a practical manner. We aim for students to acquire the following seven abilities: innovation creation, global dialogue, ability to absorb cutting-edge research, practical English skills, leadership, environmental responsiveness, and problem-solving.

The Department of Global Innovation offers an atmosphere in which students feel as if they are studying abroad in Japan while attending a university in Tokyo. The department has a student-led governing body that holds events such as new student orientation, Tanabata Festival, and Halloween. The environment is rich in international flavor and allows students to experience a variety of innovations.
Purpose of Education and Research
Objectives of Human Resource Development
The Department of Global Innovation Studies aims to develop students who can accurately recognize important issues in an increasingly diverse and complex global society, develop innovative and creative solutions to those issues, and sublimate them into practical and realistic solutions through appropriate communication with others. The objective of the program is to nurture human resources as Innovative Problem Solvers.
Educational objectives, including abilities to be acquired by students
The curriculum not only provides students with the necessary skills and abilities in the three academic areas of "Global Entrepreneurship," "Global Business," and "Global Collaboration," but also includes practical course study abroad and project-based courses. In addition, practical subjects such as study abroad and project subjects are also included in the curriculum,
- Through small-group, problem-solving learning, students can become human resources who can bring about innovation (=change) in all areas of global society (innovative creativity).
- Through collaborative group work with a balanced mix of international students and domestic students, students can become people who are confident in their ability to interact with people from all over the world (global dialogue skills).
- Receive cutting-edge educational content in collaboration with cutting-edge universities and research institutions related to innovation and entrepreneurship around the world (ability to absorb advanced research)
- Although all courses are conducted in English, students will be able to take courses without difficulty through thorough instruction in English according to their English level (practical English skills)
- Students will be able to acquire various leadership skills through experience in cooperation with social organizations and companies (Leadership)
- Acquire the ability to work abroad through long-term study abroad programs required of all Japanese students and overseas internships upon request (environmental responsiveness)
- Acquire the leadership skills to bring innovation to various systems in global society, and the knowledge and abilities to solve problems and contribute to the autonomous development of local communities (problem-solving skills).

Program Outcome
By the time of graduation, students will have acquired the knowledge, philosophy, and ability to interact and act as innovators in various areas of global society. Specifically, students will acquire the knowledge to realize innovations that balance economy and society in the field of international business in global companies, negotiations between nations, and activities in international organizations, as well as an international perspective based on a deep understanding of Japan's economy, society, and culture.
In an environment where diversity coexists between Japanese and international students, we seek for Japanese students to become global human resources with a well-defined identity, and for international students to become human resources who can lead innovation in global society together with Japan, based on a deep understanding of Japanese culture and customs.

Curriculum
As a foundation for innovators in global society, the program provides study skills courses that systematically and practically develop skills to learn, interact, and act in English, the means of communication in global dialogues, while acquiring a wide range of liberal arts to understand diversity. The academic courses are taught entirely in English, creating a learning environment that balances specialized knowledge and practical application skills with the ability to use English fully. This academic course Global Entrepreneurship, provides students with a broad understanding of changing international circumstances and fosters an awareness of international entrepreneurship; Global Business, which provides students with the systematic and practical knowledge of economics and management required by people engaged in international business; and Global Management, which provides students with the skills to solve problems in a global society and to advance their careers. The Global Collaboration area is designed to help students solve problems and advance their careers in a global society.
In addition, a full range of project-based learning courses will be offered, including long-term study abroad, overseas internships, and volunteer activities to gain sufficient overseas experience while still in school, as well as theater workshops to develop dialogue skills in English for successful individual international activities, and problem-solving education while visiting foreign countries. The Department also offers a multilayered curriculum that combines knowledge and practice, such as learning journeys, to simultaneously develop creative knowledge, flexible thinking and judgment, and collaborative skills that are tolerant of diversity, so that students can be active in the global arena immediately after graduation.
Through our unique curriculum of Travel, Play, and Dialogue, which is a distinctive feature of our department, students will be able to accurately recognize important issues in an increasingly diverse and complex global society, develop innovative and creative solutions to those issues, and communicate appropriately with others practically and realistically. Through a unique curriculum including Innovative Problem Solver, Dialogue, etc., the program aims to nurture Innovative Problem Solvers who can accurately recognize important issues in a diverse and complex global society, develop innovative and creative solutions to problems, and sublimate them into practical and realistic solutions through appropriate communication with others.

Scholarships and Funding
Toyo offers full scholarships for undergraduate and Master’s students. The scholarship for international undergraduate students is called the Toyo SDGs Ambassador Scholarship with 100% tuition exemption and free accommodation for 4 years.
Who are the SDGs Ambassadors?
SDGs Ambassadors are students at Toyo University who engage in various activities that help Toyo and the world achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). There are thousands of ways to work as an SDGs Ambassador, including organizing learning events, coordinating volunteer activities, or hosing study groups in the dormitory. Therefore, the Ambassadors are expected to excel not only in academic performance but also in social, communication, coordination, and leadership skills.
Who is eligible
You should apply for the SDGs Ambassador Program at the same time you apply for admission to Toyo.
- Those who have completed (or are expected to complete) 12-year education
- Those who satisfy other eligibility requirements for admission
- Those who are willing to be a leader in Toyo community and actively engage in various activities that help achieve the SDGs
- Those who meet the following language requirements:
- Applicants applying for English-taught programs should meet one of the following: IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT 94, or TOEIC L&R 780 + S&W 310
