The Ohio State University (OSU) is a public research university located in Columbus, Ohio, United States. It was founded in 1870 as the Ohio Agricultural and Mechanical College, and was later renamed as Ohio State University in 1878.
OSU is one of the largest universities in the United States, with a total enrollment of over 68,000 students across its main campus in Columbus and several regional campuses throughout Ohio. The university offers over 200 undergraduate majors and more than 250 graduate and professional degree programs across a wide range of disciplines, including business, engineering, law, medicine, social sciences, humanities, and natural and mathematical sciences.
OSU is a member of the Big Ten Conference and is well known for its strong athletic programs, particularly in football. The university also has a robust research enterprise, with over $1 billion in annual research expenditures and a broad range of research centers and institutes in areas such as health and medicine, sustainability, and technology.
Notable OSU alumni include several astronauts, business leaders, politicians, and athletes, including Neil Armstrong, Jack Nicklaus, and R. Kelly.
