Introduction

About Us

The Guidance and Psychological Counseling Program admitted its first students in the academic year of 2012-2013. The main purpose of the program is to prepare guidance and psychological counseling professionals who will primarily work at K-12 schools with all the stakeholders involved to support their academic, occupational, personal, and social development in a variety of work settings. The other aim of the program is to prepare qualified counselors who have reflective and critical thinking as well as leadership skills, and who can contribute to GPC practices at the national and the international level.

5 Reasons to Choose TED University

1. Liberal Arts Education

LA education prepares students for a modern and complex world that necessitates writing and speaking effectively, thinking critically and creatively, acquiring problem-solving skills, and being flexible and adaptable.

2. Career Opportunities

TEDU has one of the strongest alumni and industry network not only in Turkey but also in all over the world which make a successful career planning possible for our students and provide opportunities for them.

3. City University

TEDU campus is in the city center and equidistant from everywhere, which provides easy access to our students with its location at the intersection of the transportation network.

4. Scholarship Opportunites

There are possibilities of 25%-75% tuition fee waiver or 100% tuition fee exemption for International students

5. English Medium Education

Our goal is to empower our graduates with knowledge in their fields of study and academic English language skills at an advanced level that will serve them in their continuing academic and professional careers.

Teaching and Learning

The TEDU GPC program is set apart from its peer institutions in Turkey by its focus on the practical component of the courses. It is evident that preparing highly qualified counselors cannot be achieved through theoretical studies only. Students at the GPC program are encouraged to be integrally involved in teaching and learning processes throughout their studies. To this end, each GPC student is expected to carry out extracurricular activities such as observations, research, and practice in order to be a competent professional. The practical component of the courses gradually and consistently increase over time in the program to make GPC students more competent in their understanding of the theoretical concepts they study.

The other distinct feature of the TEDU GPC program is that students are required to choose at least one course from each discipline from the liberal arts in order to become culturally well-rounded individuals with a solid understanding of themselves and the world they live in. The curriculum at TEDU is based on the principles of liberal arts education, which allows students to specialize according to their preferences, and has an integrative educational philosophy. Students are encouraged to organize seminars, engage in interdisciplinary studies, carry out research, and complete capstone experiences. For that purpose, the undergraduate curriculum at TEDU consists of 17 required credits (which are mandatory in The Council of Higher Education (YÖK) program) and 21 elective credits from the Foundation Program. The medium of instruction at TEDU GPC is English. TEDU offers a 50% scholarship to all incoming first-year students. In addition, the Turkish Educational Association (TED) offers different types of merit scholarships geared specifically towards students in the Faculty of Education.

Laboratories

There are 4 Psychological Counseling Laboratories in our department. Each of them has a stereo system and divided by mirrored interfaces for supervisions. In terms of the course of Practicum in Individual Psychological Counseling, video cameras and external harddisks are provided for GPC students to record their sessions.

Career Opportunities

Since the medium of instruction at TEDU is English, students are able to follow the literature and other sources in their field, which contributes to their personal and professional development. Students who satisfactorily complete all the requirements of the program earn the degree of Bachelor of Science in Guidance and Psychological Counseling. After they receive their degree, students can work as school counselors in public and private schools. In addition, the graduates can also work at the Ministry of Family and Social Policies and the Ministry of Justice, in private educational institutions, private family counseling services, private counseling services, human resources offices, and departments of education at universities and other higher education institutions. Since the Ministry of National Education (MoNE) has a shortage of school counselors in state schools, the graduates of the TEDU GPC program will have an opportunity to work as school counselors in the schools of MoNE.
