About Us

The aim of our program is to establish a research and education center with high standards by following innovative economic theory and providing developments in the literature to our students. The Department of Economics values international communication with the world’s leading universities. Our target is to give our graduates the ability of understanding and analyzing the contemporary subjects and problems of the Turkish and world economy with the appropriate methods.

The mission of the Department of Economics at TED University is to endow students with modern economic theory as well as the modern analytical and quantitative methods of economics to help them understand the contemporary economic issues in a cause and effect relationship.

TED University offers a common core content of one year for FEAS students and allows its students to make their own choice when selecting their major; thereby, giving our students have the advantage of an educated decision to commit to an Economics Major. Our curriculum offers a large selection of elective courses and minors.

The education philosophy of TEDU featuring a large selection of elective courses, innovative teaching pedagogies, a student-centered approach, and a balanced focus on both the depth and extensiveness of knowledge will allow our students to acquire a unique education that will prepare them for their leading roles in their professional lives. Teaching and Learning

The education philosophy of the Department of Economics is student-focused. The primary advantage of the Department of Economics at TED University is the incorporation of interactive learning methods into its educational strategy by emphasizing student participation is. Application-based education supported by advanced computer technologies, continuous assessment, projects, group works, and presentations are the main pillars of the Department of Economics at TED University.

The interaction of the Department of Economics with other social science departments like political science, sociology, and business administration is very high. First-year courses are common to all students of the Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences. This allows the students to have a strong natural and social sciences background and to make their own choices when continuing their education in one of the three programs at the faculty. Starting from the sophomore year, in addition to the core courses, a wide range of elective courses and specialization areas are offered by the Department of Economics and other programs at TED University. Specialization areas would be contemporary areas such as environmental economics and policies, the European Union, globalization, health economics and policies, and finance, in addition to the main areas of economics such as macroeconomics, microeconomics, international economics, and econometrics. A wide range of university elective courses further contribute to students’ knowledge accumulation and intellectual background.

Nowadays, economics graduates are preferred candidates for employment in various business areas. Public organizations and institutions such as the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, the Ministry of Economy, the Undersecretariat for the Treasury, the Ministry of Development, the Competition Authority, the Capital Markets Board, and the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency; the banking sector; corporations related to foreign trade and consulting companies in addition to international institutions and organizations such as the World Bank, the United Nations, and the International Monetary Fund are among the places that mostly hire economic graduates.

The high-quality education, the variety of elective course alternatives, and the research opportunities provided will equip economics graduates of TED University with the academic competence required to make them adequate candidates for post-graduate and doctorate programs both in Turkey and abroad.

Internship

Students of the Department of Economics are required to complete two internships. Students may choose to complete their internships either during summer breaks or semester intervals. The academic advisors assist the students in selecting institutions as well as making the necessary arrangements. The students may apply to institutions such as the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Development, and the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, as well as to international organizations, think tanks, various research centers, and political parties for internships.

Program Outcomes

Students graduating from the Department of Economics at TEDU will

  1. Be able to apply their economic knowledge to a variety of problems and issues in a range of economic contexts
  2. Obtain the skills to interpret and test economic cases and problems through quantitative and qualitative methods
  3. Be competent in informatics and communication technologies and able to perform economic analysis through one of the software types used in economics
  4. Acquire basic knowledge in economic-related sciences and be able to participate in interdisciplinary studies
  5. Be able to evaluate, interpret and analyze developments in economics in terms of causality by using statistical and econometric tools and report the outcomes
  6. Develop a sense of responsibility in teamwork, self-discipline, good work habits, and time management practices
  7. Prepare outputs such as reports, projects, presentation, and articles in line with ethical rules and implement social, scientific, and professional codes of ethical conduct
  8. Follow and evaluate the economics literature and to be able to communicate with their colleagues both in Turkish and in English
