With five concentrations — ranging from esports to entrepreneurship — and 35 elective hours, the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at Stephens can be tailored to your individual interests. The Agency
The Agency is a space and a collaboration initiative that supports students who provide creative services through Creative Ink ad agency, Stephens Life features magazine, Harbinger literary magazine, and Event and Convention Management.
Stephens College Events
Plan and manage real events on the beautiful Stephens campus, from weddings to business conferences, holiday galas, award banquets, and more.
Columbia Marketing Group
Columbia Marketing Group, or CMG, is a full-service marketing, digital, and design agency based in Columbia, MO. Stephens students are mentored and instructed by CMG president Erica Pefferman — also the president and publisher of COMO Magazine.
Center for Career and Professional Development
Stephens is recognized as a National College of Distinction for Career Development. Our College-to-Career curriculum builds professional skills, experiences, and materials into your graduation requirements. More than half of our students complete internships while in college — many of them paid — and most of those students complete more than one internship before graduation.
Kopenhaver Center at Stephens
As a satellite location of the Lillian Lodge Kopenhaver Center for the Advancement of Women in Communication, Stephens College shares the center’s mission to empower women as leaders in communication and to uphold diversity and inclusion in communication practice and research. The center provides access to guest speakers, networking events, and virtual workshops for the benefit of students, early professionals and seasoned communication experts alike.
Curriculum
Program Structure
The business program at Stephens comprises three parts:
- Broad Liberal Arts (31 credit hours of general education courses)
- Business Core (36 credit hours)
- Specialize in one or more functional areas to develop business expertise (18 credit hours in the concentration of choice)
You will also complete 35 elective hours to earn your degree. The business major allows you to choose a minor or second concentration that complements your interests and goals.
Business Core
All business majors will complete the 36-credit hour Business Core.
Courses include accounting, finance management and marketing, business law and ethics, and professional communication.
Business Concentrations
Our dynamic and career-focused business program allows you to customize your program of study to suit your career goals. Choose from the following concentrations (each consisting of 18 credit hours):
Entrepreneurship
Solve complex problems with insightful, innovative solutions. Learn to create and manage your own small business.
- Gain first-hand experience in all aspects of running a small business as a team member at Susie's, our student-run campus store.
Esports Management
Prepare for careers in esports administration and management. Become a leader in the field.
Conference and Event Planning Management
Combine a strong foundation in business, marketing, and communication principles with on-the-ground experience planning real events.
- Help manage weddings and more on the beautiful Stephens Campus through SC events.
Management
Learn how to work with people — from human resource management to global markets — and create an effective work environment.
- Develop business plans and action plans with budgets, marketing plans, and outcomes. Get real-world managerial experience by taking on a role at Susie's, the campus store completely run by students.
Marketing
Focus on consumer behavior and strategic communication, developing products and services to meet needs and lead businesses to success.
- Work closely with local marketing firm Columbia Marketing Group and serve real clients while in college.
