Introduction
BSc (Hons) Ecology and Conservation Management Degree
There is an increasing need for modern conservation management for trained graduate ecologists with academic knowledge grounded in-field experience and competent species identification skills.
The BSc (Hons) in Ecology and Conservation Management degree programme employs a scientific approach to natural resource management, conservation, and sustainability and has an overall theme of applied ecological science.
Teaching and Learning
The course seeks to encourage independent thought and analysis with students undertaking investigative-style projects. You will develop the ecological expertise to enable you to solve conservation problems in the field, be able to design management plans, and to effectively implement them.
The core science content of the degree includes:
- Biological and Ecological Science
- Conservation
- Wildlife and Habitat Management
The course builds on the College’s existing links and relationships with industry together with ensuring graduates are equipped to meet the challenges of the future such as those set out in Biodiversity 2020.
Assessment Methods and Research Opportunities
Assessment will be both formative and summative throughout the programme. Formative assessments will allow for skill development and the potential for you to develop both research and study skills as well as technical and subject-specific knowledge.
There is a wide range of summative assessment used during the course including written assignments, project-based reports, practically based portfolios, presentations, lab reports, open and closed examinations.
