The overall educational objective of the Mathematics undergraduate degree program is to provide students with the opportunity to develop their analytical thinking, quantitative reasoning, and problem-solving skills that will prepare them to succeed in either graduate school or in a variety of careers in business, industry, government, or teaching.

The Mathematics Education Concentration strives to produce mathematics educators who are innovators and leaders in the teaching field as well as capable mathematicians. A year-long student teaching experience is included in the curriculum, and upon graduation, students have a B.S. in Mathematics and are certified to teach mathematics in grades 6-12 in Louisiana public schools.

How to Apply

All students who are not citizens of the United States or who do not possess a resident alien card are classified as international students.

All foreign nationals applying for admission to Southeastern Louisiana University should contact International Services, SLU 10752, Hammond, LA 70402, USA, for admission information. Foreign applicants must submit the following materials before eligibility for admission can be determined:

Application for admission accompanied by a non-refundable $30 (thirty-dollar) U.S. currency fee.

Statement of financial responsibility, giving name and address of sponsor. International students are not eligible for Federal (Title IV) financial aid. Each applicant must show that they will be fully supported either by private or governmental sources.

An official copy of TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) scores for all whose official language is not English. TOEFL scores will be accepted only from Educational Testing Service, Princeton, New Jersey, USA 08546, not from the applicant.

Complete and official transcripts of high school and college work, translated into English.

To be eligible for full admission to Southeastern, international beginning freshmen students must meet ALL of the following criteria:

Must have completed a recognized secondary school program with a minimum Grade Point Average of 2.0.

Minimum TOEFL scores required - 500 paper-based, 173 computer-based, or 61 internet-based.

Minimum IELTS score required - 5.5 overall band.

Due to a change in the IELTS to TOEFL conversion scale, the minimum IELTS score required for Spring 2018 or after is 6.0 overall band.

Note* Any student who has studied in the United States for one full year in an academic program is not required to take the TOEFL or IELTS.
