In Dr.'s home office. O. Notohamidjojo, SH, on Jalan Tuntang 52 (now Diponegoro 52) Salatiga, the Board of Directors and the Curatorial Board decided to convert FKIP into a Christian University, which was later called Satya Wacana.

At the 3rd Anniversary celebration in Building B, the Governing Board and the Curatorial Board represented by Father Ds. S. Djojodihardjo, Father S. Poerbasoesanto, and Father Ds. Poerbawiyoga announced the decision to transform FKIP into a Christian University with three faculties, namely FKIP, Faculty of Law, and Faculty of Economics. This date is then used as the birthday of the Faculty of Economics.

Satya Wacana Christian University (SWCU), started out with the name Indonesian Christian Teaching Educational Tertiary Institution (PTPG-KI). It was officiated on November 30, 1956, with five departments, consisting of Education, History, English, Law, and Economics. PTPG-KI of Satya Wacana changed to become FKIP-KI on July 17, 1959. Then on December 5, 1959, it officially became Satya Wacana Christian University with the existence of the Economics Faculty and Law Faculty, which were then followed by the opening of several other new faculties and study programs.
