Introduction
The history of human cultures coincides with the history of clothing: since ancient times, the way of dressing has marked civilizations, characterizing their crucial moments of transformation.
In the global acceleration of our present, there is a need for an all-round reflection on the meaning of fashion in the contemporary world in order to be fully aware of the immediate and future impact it has on the environment, understood as the natural, cultural and social habitat where everything is interconnected.
Fashion companies today are required to reduce their unsustainability in order to move the fashion industry towards an effective ecological transition.
This is the opportunity that presents itself today to the young fashion designer: to learn to formulate a thought that is creative but aware of the impact of their fashion making.
The new three-year RUFA course is the first course in Italy that takes a transdisciplinary approach to integral ecology in the creative design of the entire fashion supply chain and aims to provide solid technical skills while stimulating a critical reflection on the cultural and business models of the fashion system, with a view to sustainability, inclusion, and circularity.
The sustainable fashion designer must have a complete education, in which the creativity cultivated and enabled by digital knowledge, technical skills, and cultural in-depth analysis are confronted with the themes and opportunities of sustainable development.
*The course is available only in Italian. All lessons include mandatory attendance at RUFA’s locations in Rome.

Career services
In synergy with the world of art and the creative industries.
The relationship between businesses and the job market is a key aspect of any education program. Thanks to solid cultural, artistic, and technical preparation and a varied program of internships, workshops, masterclasses, and special projects, RUFA graduates are particularly predisposed to finding professional opportunities that are in line with their studies.
At RUFA, students can undertake a professional internship experience while being supervised by expert tutors at companies, public and private organizations, museums, film production companies, ateliers, and artistic and professional studios.
RUFA has also activated a job matching platform, RUFA Career System, where all RUFA students are registered from the first day of their studies at the Academy and even after they graduate. On the platform, the Academy’s partners publish internship, job, and collaboration offers useful to accelerate the entry and growth of RUFA students and Alumni in the world of work.
A platform is also a tool for the administrative management of curricular internships in order to make the process more and more efficient.
The partners of RUFA can submit internship offers at any time of the year to the Academy’s Internship and Placement Office so as to receive student applications that correspond to their requests and select the most suitable candidates. Insurance is covered by the Academy.

Scholarships and Funding
In RUFA the student is the focus of every initiative!
RUFA, to facilitate access to education for its students, has banned scholarships for both Bachelor's and Master's programs and has established agreements with credit institutions.
The scholarships are aimed at talented students who want to study at our Academy and those who need financial support.
Students, therefore, have the opportunity of benefiting from loans and financing opportunities in advantageous conditions so that they can focus completely on their studies, without having to work to cover academic expenses and without burdening their family’s budget. The solutions proposed to depend on the credit institution’s assessment both in terms of the guarantors provided and in terms of the student’s academic career.

Grand for Italian and International students
For the 2022/2023 academic year, RUFA is granting 17 scholarships to Italian and international students who are enrolling in the first year of the Bachelor of Arts programs in Painting, Sculpture and Installations, Set Design, Cinema, Design, Sustainable Fashion Design, Photography and Audiovisual, Graphic Design and Comics and illustration. The scholarship is worth € 2,500.00, which will be directly deducted from the tuition for each of the three years, which corresponds to the legal duration of the courses if the student achieves the credits and passes the exams required by the study program.
Requirements
For Bachelor of Arts programs, grants are assigned through rankings in ascending order of income on the basis of the ISEE; the only criteria on which the rankings are based is, therefore, the economic means. For participation in the competition, the limit on income and assets for the year 2020 is ISEE (Equivalent Economic Situation Indicator) € 36,000.00.
Students enrolled in years following the first, notwithstanding the requirement related to the economic means for the Bachelor of Arts programs, have their scholarship confirmed based on the credits acquired in previous years within the deadlines set by the call for applications.
- Bachelor of Arts programs> 2nd year of studies = 40 credits
- Bachelor of Arts programs> 3rd year of studies = 95 credits
Deadline
- Publication of the call for applications: 15th of June 2022
- Deadline for the call: 7th of September 2022
Grand only for International students
RUFA offers:
- 3 renewable full scholarships that cover the tuition fees (except for the DiSCo Lazio regional tax of € 140,00 and the degree tax); these scholarships also cover the enrollment fee.
- 2 renewable partial scholarships (worth € 2500).
The scholarships are intended for international students (EU and non-EU citizens) who are beginning a BA program. The scholarships are awarded each year to the students who have submitted the best portfolios for the BA programs and who have excelled at their admission exams (January, April, and June sessions). The winners are selected by two different academic committees. For the years following the first, the scholarship will be renewed only after achieving the credits and passing the exams required by the study plan. The scholarships for international students cannot be combined with any other scholarships or reductions offered by RUFA.
Requirements
To participate in the selection process, applicants must submit the scholarship application form and attach their portfolio and a letter of intent (see below). Applicants must book their admission exam (January, April, or June session) at the same time. At the end of each admission exam session, one of the three full scholarships will be awarded. Students who arrive second in the rankings of January and April will be awarded a partial scholarship of € 2500.
Students who have submitted the portfolio but have not sat the admission exam in the sessions indicated above will not be considered eligible for a scholarship.
Portfolio Requirements
Submit a portfolio (Portfolio Guidelines) through the scholarship application form with at least ten digital images. The portfolio must be attached to the scholarship application form.
- The portfolio must be saved as a PDF file.
- The size of the portfolio should not exceed 25 megabytes.
- The portfolio must include a list with the following information for each image: image number, title, medium, and dimensions (Height x Width or Height x Width x Depth).
Moreover, candidates applying for the BA in Cinema can send us a short film by email through a file transfer service (e.g., WeTransfer).
After reading the portfolio requirements page, if you have any questions regarding this process, please feel free to contact us.
Applicants can include a link to the candidate’s own artistic works website in their letter of intent. The Academy’s commission will review the portfolios. A second academic committee will evaluate the best candidates already selected by the course committees during the admission exams. The assessment is based on the quality, originality, creativity, technical competence, and presentation of the portfolios and the admission exam.
Scholarship Renewal Requirements
The scholarship is awarded for the first year and must be confirmed each year for the legal duration of the course. For the first year, the scholarship is awarded on the basis of the portfolio and the admission exam (sat in January, April, and June), whereas for the following years, the renewal is subject to a review of specific requirements.
Students must achieve at least the following Academic credits and average grades:
- Bachelor of Arts (BA) > 2nd year of the Course = 40 Credits (by the end of the autumn exam session). Average grade 27/30.

- April session: deadline to book the test and complete the portfolio procedure (April 4, 2022);

Merit loan
RUFA students can count on the financial support designed by Intesa Sanpaolo to enable them to expand their skills.
“per Merito” is a loan that every student residing in Italy can obtain on the sole condition of being in good standing with the chosen study course and does not require any guarantee. The loan will be allocated from June of the first year after obtaining at least 20 training credits.
“per Merito” allows students to cover their enrolment fees, purchase materials for their education, cover accommodation expenses, and everything that is necessary to undertake their study course with peace of mind. And students are under no obligation to report these expenses.
At the end of the studies, a “bridge period” of 24 months is activated, during which the student will no longer receive payments but will not have to repay anything yet.
The return is made over a maximum period of 30 years; in case of early repayment, there are no additional costs.
The rate is fixed and defined upon subscription.
Interest is paid by Intesa Sanpaolo to the Fund for Impact; the fund created for categories that have difficulty accessing credit and education.
0% Interest financing
RUFA strongly believes in the right to study and, thanks to the agreements made with Counsel (Banca Sella Group), it facilitates access to education for its students through the possibility of taking advantage of “zero percent interest financing.”
When enrolling in RUFA, the payment of the fee for teaching, equipment, and workshops, as well as the tuition fee, can be made in 12 monthly installments, for a maximum of € 5.000,00 per year. Example for € 5.000,00 financing = € 416,67 per month.
To take advantage of this opportunity, it is necessary for a guarantor to be present to sign the paperwork at the Administration Office of RUFA, as well as to submit his/her last pay slip or tax return and a photocopy of his/her ID and tax code.
The successful outcome of the request depends on the Credit Institution.
