Introduction
In the Sculpture/Installation program, you will experiment with creating three-dimensional sculptures and installation work. You will learn the skills to create installations – works of art designed for public spaces. You will use the fabrication studios to explore hands-on and digital creation.

What You’ll Do in the Program
First Year
Before you focus on Sculpture/Installation, your first year at OCAD University will be in our first year art program. You will have a ton of choice in taking a different kind of classes to get a good base for future years. A few are mandatory, such as art history, color, and drawing, but the rest of your classes could include:
- Sculpture concepts
- Form and structure
- Site & Intervention (create works in a specific space)
- Wearable art
- Photography
- Painting
- Animation
- Body and technology
- Printmaking
- Art and code
Second Year
In the second year, you can choose courses based on your interest and study Sculpture/Installation topics such as:
- Body & object
- Site & time
- Contemporary issues
- Exploring 3D digital objects
Third Year
The third year will feature your choices or art, visual and critical studies, or social sciences courses. And, it will feature more advanced Sculpture/Installation courses, such as:
- Issues in the history of sculpture
- Installation art as it relates to the body and the object
- Professional practice
Fourth Year
In your fourth year, you can choose courses based on your interest and will work on your final-year thesis, concentrating on the production of a body of finished work and a research paper. Every student will install and exhibit their work in a public gallery. You’ll also showcase your work at GradEx _ OCAD U’s Graduate Exhibition, the biggest free art and design exhibition in Toronto with more than 40,000 visitors.

Program Outcome
The program includes studio courses that develop your imagination, critical and technical knowledge in areas such as:
- Sculpting
- 3D technology
- Metalwork
- Woodworking
- Mould-making
- Plastic and metal fabrication
- Bronze-casting
You will also explore the creation and meaning of objects in courses such as contemporary practice and theory.
This combination of practice and theory will make you ready to develop your creative research and exhibit your own projects. Your learning will include openness to many diverse cultural perspectives.
At the end of this four-year program, you will earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

OCAD U's Undergraduate Scholarships and Awards programs recognize excellence. Each program and year level gives a variety of scholarships and awards based on grades and/or studio/coursework. Scholarships and awards are different from bursaries, which are distributed on the basis of financial need.
