Introduction
The Degree in Computer Engineering is a 1st cycle course, compatible with the Bologna principles, which aims to provide graduates with solid, coherent and comprehensive basic training in Computer Engineering, which can later be further developed in specialized training at the level of second cycle.
Computing is vital for modern society, with computer systems becoming ubiquitous in the most varied areas of human activity, from Entertainment to Medicine, from Agriculture to the Arts, from Public Services to Banking and Communications. Computer Engineering is the technical and scientific discipline that allows the design and construction of services, systems and products that support these activities, including business information systems, services such as Google, Facebook, Netflix, systems for autonomous automobiles and agriculture of precision, computer games and augmented reality applications, media, mobile and web applications, Cloud Computing services and solutions for the Internet of Things and communications, as well as crypto-currency systems and Blockchain platforms .
The NOVA School of Science and Technology | FCT NOVA is a pioneer in the teaching of Computer Engineering in Portugal, combining teaching excellence and research accumulated in nearly 50 years of experience. The course's professors have vast experience and capacity for innovation, linking teaching with research at the NOVA LINCS Research Center, a Center of Excellence in the field of Informatics and Computer Science. The Degree in Computer Engineering is based on this experience, in conjunction with business partners and complemented by the work of external consultants, consubstantiating an updated view on the initial training of the Computer Design Engineer.

Program Outcome
The Degree in Computer Engineering aims to train Computer Engineers with a solid, coherent and comprehensive background, allowing integration into professional activity compatible with the E1 qualification level of the Order of Engineers. The training obtained can be deepened, being the first step in the training of Computer Design Engineers qualified to develop project, leadership and innovation activities.
The curriculum structure provides a solid and comprehensive training in Informatics, and in the fundamental disciplines for an Engineer. This training is complemented with a set of transversal skills in the areas of communication and science, technology and society.
The course offers the opportunity to carry out an engineering project or research initiation, which can be carried out in a business, research laboratory or other context.
Over the last twenty years, the Department of Informatics at FCT NOVA has graduated around two thousand graduates and masters in Informatics Engineering.
