Introduction

Neuroscience represents a relatively new but rapidly expanding area of study that brings together a variety of disciplines to explore the development, structure, functional activities and behavioral consequences of the nervous system. The neuroscience major emphasizes a collaborative multidisciplinary approach to understanding the intricate neural mechanisms underlying human and animal behavior. You will experience a diverse, yet integrated education focused on the relationship between biology and behavior from the introductory to advanced courses of study.

Academic and Co-Curricular Opportunities

Research
Students in the neuroscience program regularly take part in individualized experiences to help them develop as scientists. Opportunities include the Honors Program, Student Opportunities for Academic Research (SOAR), and National Science Foundations-supported Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program.

Service Learning
Service learning is a critical component of engaging students in higher education. By offering neuroscience undergraduates the opportunity to share their knowledge of the nervous system and the benefits of brain research with the general public, Brain Awareness Outreach has the potential to increase student personal development in areas such as personal identity, social responsibility, communication skills, and leadership abilities. Our Brain Club serves as a perfect conduit for student engagement in service learning and community service activities!

Study Abroad
Sophomore year is the perfect time for a study abroad opportunity, or, as we like to call it, a “Global Greyhound Trip.” The Elevate experience includes a faculty-led trip to one of our featured destinations at no extra cost to students! In fact, one of our Neuroscience faculty is co-leading a trip to Tanzania.

Lehigh Valley Society for Neuroscience Chapter
The Society for Neuroscience (SfN) is the largest professional organization committed to the discipline of neuroscience worldwide. The Lehigh Valley SfN Chapter is dedicated to fostering a sense of social responsibility and leadership abilities in all Lehigh Valley SfN Chapter undergraduate members as they engage in scholarship and educate the public about the brain and benefits of neuroscience research through service learning and advocacy initiatives.
