Introduction
The Moravian University Art Department cultivates a vibrant academic community committed to creative and critical thinking. Our faculty and students share a passion for art as a celebration of the mind’s imaginative and intellectual powers. Art is by nature an interdisciplinary and trans-cultural field that invites students to consider how art reflects and shapes society, politics, ethics, and culture. At Moravian University, art-making is a form of meaning-making that relies on invention, research, and an infinitely curious mind to construct new knowledge, foster self-expression, and explore visual communication. Students are given the opportunity to unleash their creativity through dynamic projects that embrace risk-taking, problem-solving, revision, and self-reflection.

Curriculum
There are two-degree options in studio art:
- BA: provides the opportunity for additional study in other disciplines, including minors or double majors.
- BFA provides a more intense studio art experience with more required art courses.
Students in the Studio Art, BFA will take 17, rather than 13, courses in the arts.
Note: Both options require completion of the Learning-in-Common (LinC) curriculum in liberal arts.
Internships
As part of ART 375, Professional Practices, students work with a professional artist on responsibilities such as publicity and website development, business practices, and promotion. Many students also opt to complete an internship with an artist or arts organization. Seeking out and working with an artist is an important part of the learning experience.
Program Outcome
The studio art track is designed to prepare students for careers in the fine arts in areas such as drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, or printmaking. It may also serve as a foundation for graduate study in fine arts.
