Introduction
Our program prepares students to directly enter a career in law enforcement or other criminal justice professions upon graduation. Graduates will be able to pursue criminal justice careers or a graduate or professional degree. Bureau of Labor Statistics Data indicate median pay of almost $63,000 for police and detectives and an average or better job outlook.Criminal Justice is an academic field that focuses on the study of crime, law enforcement, and the criminal justice system.
Criminal Justice is an interdisciplinary field that incorporates theories and methods from a variety of disciplines, including sociology, psychology, law, and political science. The curriculum for a Criminal Justice degree typically includes courses in criminology, criminal law, law enforcement, corrections, and criminal justice research methods. Students may also have the opportunity to take courses in specialized areas such as forensic science, juvenile justice, or homeland security. In addition to coursework, students in a Criminal Justice program may be required to participate in internships, research projects, or other experiential learning opportunities to gain practical experience in criminal justice.
They may also have the opportunity to participate in criminal justice clubs or professional organizations on campus. Graduates of a Criminal Justice program may pursue careers in a variety of fields, including law enforcement, corrections, courts, probation and parole, or homeland security. They may work in a variety of settings, including local, state, or federal government agencies, non-profit organizations, or private corporations. Alternatively, they may choose to pursue advanced degrees in criminal justice or related fields, such as a Master of Science in Criminal Justice or a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Criminology.
