Introduction

The Department of Statistics offer a Graduate Certificate in Applied Statistics, which is a 12 credit-hour certificate program meant to complement graduate work in another (non-statistics) program. Coursework includes topics in basic and more advanced statistical methods as well as programming. Because of the interdisciplinary nature of the program, a student must take classes from multiple departments to count towards the certificate.

A Bachelor of Applied Statistics is an undergraduate degree program that focuses on the practical application of statistical methods in a variety of fields, such as business, economics, social sciences, healthcare, and engineering. This degree program typically takes four years to complete and requires students to take a range of courses in statistics, as well as in related fields such as mathematics, computer science, and data analysis. The curriculum of a Bachelor of Applied Statistics degree program typically includes courses in statistical theory, probability theory, regression analysis, experimental design, and data analysis. Students may also take courses that focus on specific topics such as biostatistics, econometrics, or data mining. Additionally, students may be required to take courses in computer programming, data management, and data visualization.

The goal of this degree program is to prepare students for careers in data analysis, statistical consulting, or research. Graduates may go on to work for government agencies, non-profit organizations, or private companies that require statistical analysis, such as financial institutions, marketing firms, or healthcare organizations. Alternatively, graduates may choose to pursue graduate studies in applied statistics or related fields, such as data science, biostatistics, or econometrics.
