Introduction

There is actually more to the Golden State Warriors than Coach Steve Kerr and the Bay Area’s beloved “Hamptons Five.” Likewise, sports teams, college athletic departments, and other sports organizations are built upon more than just players, coaches, and team executives. Behind the winning records and famous names in sports organizations are many other vital employees and activities. At Menlo College, the Sports Management degree exposes students to all sides of the business of sports, including sports sponsorship relationships, team and league equity issues, labor and personnel management, and a wide variety of ethical and social issues facing practitioners in both professional and amateur athletics.

The Sports Management degree prepares students for internal positions in sports organizations, public marketing, radio, television, and events management. Our graduates are capable of functioning in entry-level positions across a wide array of sports organizations, such as professional or college/university sports teams, fitness or recreation centers, as well as the governing bodies of various sports leagues.

In order to gain a more complete understanding of business enterprise, sports management students complete the required core curriculum for all business students (39 units). An internship, the culmination of the program, in a sports organization blends theory with practice. The program can be completed in four years of study.
