Introduction
The Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology offers students a variety of pathways for successful careers in Psychology-related fields and advanced study in Psychology. Students may choose from concentrations in Counseling, Human Resource Management, Forensic Psychology, Lifespan Development, and Mind/Body Health.
Instead of choosing one of these concentrations, the student may also pursue General Psychology to gain a broad background in the field. All students in the Psychology degree program are trained in psychological research methodology, a critical component for understanding Psychology as an academic discipline and a profession.
In addition, the Psychology program maintains relationships with a broad range of organizations that offer internships in counseling, human services, healthcare, or business. Advisors work closely with students to plan the internship and ensure that the experience is successful.
Counseling Concentration
The Counseling concentration is designed for students considering careers in counseling or other applications of Psychology to assist people in clinical and human service settings. Core coursework includes theories of psychological treatment and behavioral change, psychological disorders, effective helping skills, and research methods.
Human Resource Management Concentration
The Human Resource Management concentration provides foundation skills necessary to fulfill newly emerging and traditional roles in personnel administration and human resource management. Preparation includes a background in traditional personnel administration skills, such as interviewing and hiring, evaluation of progress and potential, and increasing work efficiency. Core coursework includes human resource management, career planning, labor relations, compensation and benefits, and research methods.
Forensic Psychology Concentration
The Forensic Psychology concentration is designed for students interested in careers that focus on the application of Psychology to legal issues. This concentration serves as a strong foundation for those who want to pursue advanced studies in Forensic Psychology or in services that are related to legal issues. The curriculum includes courses in both Psychology and Criminal Justice Administration.
Lifespan Development Concentration
The Lifespan Development concentration is designed for students interested in careers that focus on children or other age-specific groups in the human lifespan. This concentration provides a strong foundation for those who want to pursue advanced studies in developmental psychology or in services to children, adolescents, or aging populations in schools and other applied settings.
Mind/Body Health Concentration
The Mind/Body Health Concentration is designed for students interested in the interrelation between psychological and physical aspects of human beings. Students in this concentration pursue careers in the health applications of psychological science.
