Introduction

Overview

Full-time 3-year Program (6 semesters)

The Department of Arts and Humanities at MAHE, Dubai offers a carefully curated BA Humanities program that inculcates varied critical and creative skills across three years (six semesters).

The first two years (four semesters) of the program offer a wide range of Foundation Courses for a strong grounding in fundamental concepts. Students have to complete any four (4) foundation courses (from the courses offered) in each semester (semesters 1, 2, 3, and 4) in the first two years. Foundation Courses are offered from the following disciplines:

  • Literature
  • Psychology
  • Sociology
  • Anthropology
  • History
  • Film Studies
  • Gender Studies

Electives in the final year of the program give students the option of a Major in:

  • English
  • Psychology
  • Sociology

The program culminates with a research project and the writing of a thesis on a topic of your choice, with faculty guidance.

The subject faculty includes experts in all the major humanities subjects and students will join a critical environment with frequent guest lecturers – academics, researchers, journalists, and writers – from different parts of the world.

Course completion criteria

Students must earn a minimum of 120 credits for the Bachelor of Arts degree in Humanities. This must include the final thesis (10 credits) and academic portfolio (5 credits)

Foundation Courses: Students have to complete four (4) foundation courses in each semester (semesters 1, 2, 3, and 4) in the first two years. By the end of the second year, a student is expected to complete a total of 16 foundation courses. (80 credits)

Electives: Electives are offered in the third year (semesters 5 and 6) of the programme. If the student earns 20 out of 25 credits in one of the four disciplines (English, Psychology, or Sociology) in the final year, he/she will be awarded a major in that discipline.
