Introduction
The laptop in your backpack. The phone in your pocket. The game console in your bedroom. To you, they’re not just devices that work as if by magic. They’re understandable and controllable, and you want to help make that magic happen. A computer science degree at Manhattanville starts you down that road. Courses in applied and theoretical computer science will give you the skills necessary to enter the business world or pursue graduate study in computer science. The variety of course offerings also allows ample opportunity for non-majors to increase their computer skills.
Overview
Whether you’re building the next Candy Crush, helping a business bar the gates from hackers trying to steal customer information or helping the government analyze reams of data to help combat international threats, computer science will be at the core of your efforts. On one hand, computer science is an applied science - you’ll use your knowledge to solve specific problems. On the other, though, it’s theoretical; you’ll not only understand the possibilities and limitations of computer science but devise algorithms and languages that others will apply.
At Manhattanville, you’ll bridge both theory and applied science. Learn about program design, Java programming, data structures, sequential and random access files, database design, programming languages, computer architecture and low-level programming, and other advanced computer science topics.
