Introduction
Bachelor's degree program
(B2 German required, application with B1 German is possible)
The demands on civil engineers are changing. Projects are acquired by companies around the globe and handled by international teams.
Sustainable planning and construction have become a key objective with ever-increasing international significance.
It is important to specifically prepare civil engineers for these tasks in the 21st century. Our bachelor's degree program in International Civil Engineering takes up these challenges in the construction sector.
We provide you with a broad knowledge base and prepare you to study abroad with the English vocabulary of the construction sector. Our bachelor's degree program International Civil Engineering trains you to work in cross-border engineering and construction companies, as well as in governmental and international authorities and organizations.
The academic degree of Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) in the construction sector is awarded after completion of the seven-semester degree program.
For the Bachelor's degree program level B2 German language proficiency is required.
A one-year study abroad
During the fifth and sixth semesters, you will be studying abroad at one of our partner universities around the world.
Here you will gain valuable experience in a different culture, improve your language skills, and apply what you learned in the first four semesters to project work. In addition, you will write your scientific bachelor's thesis.
The content of your studies abroad varies depending on the partner university you choose. We have a learning agreement with each partner university featuring modules from the generic categories: superstructure, substructure, infrastructure, sustainability, and project management.
Practical project and bachelor's thesis
The seventh semester is comprised of the practical project (internship), which you can complete either in Germany or abroad. Students often have their first contact with their later employer here.
The bachelor's thesis provides verification that you are able to independently handle a specific practical task using scientific methods, within a prescribed period of time.
After passing the exams, credits are assigned using the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS), enabling you to pursue a Master's degree at our university or to switch to other universities in Germany and abroad.
1 or 2-semester exchange program
Students from partner universities or free mover students coming from level 2 or level 3 in their home program are welcome to study with us for 1 or 2 semesters.
Our program comprises a full workload of 30 ECTS per semester and is entirely taught in English. There are several pathways available, such as:
- Civil Engineering
- Construction Management
- International Built Environment
Details on subjects taught, pre-conditions, living and studying in Mainz can be found in the handbook.
