Introduction
The Faculty of Social Communications aims to train both scientifically competent communication professionals and sensitized men, ready to engage and integrate the message of the Gospel into the new culture created by the means of modern communication (…) with new languages, new techniques and new behaviors (cf. John Paul II, Redemptoris missio, 37), to identify what benefits and what dangers this culture could present for African identity and values.
To achieve its objectives, the Faculty offers students who attend classes there, theoretical, practical and human training, through its rich teaching, its laboratories and professionalization studios, its many workshops, seminars and conferences; training that aims to make its graduates perform the following tasks:
a) in terms of information
gather useful documentation on a topical subject, and make a relevant and objective analysis of current problems.
b) in terms of entertainment:
– prepare and lead a meeting effectively,
– participate actively in the life of a group by promoting the participation of others,
– work to build human relationships.
c) in matters of the mass media:
– develop effective messages for different target groups,
– speak effectively in public,
– act as press attaché and hold a press organ,
– organize and produce a radio or television programme.
d) in matters of public opinion:
– know how to assess the quality of a survey,
– supervise the carrying out of an investigation
e) in matters of pastoral communication and evangelization:
– validly expose the general lines of Christian doctrine,
– take a Christian look at current events,
– express the ethical meaning and Christian symbolism in the transmission of religious knowledge.
The student of this faculty must develop scientific honesty to access the inner world of the other, a spirit of synthesis capable of grasping the essence of a message, a general culture nourished by a good knowledge of the environment, an interest pushed for languages and languages and a great capacity for adaptation.
He will also have to develop the ability to popularize the teaching of the Church through the media, the ability to develop and carry out popular education programs, as well as to organize awareness campaigns for development actions. . The basic studies are spread over five years, ie 3 years of graduat and 2 years of licence. The degree program in Social Communications can be supplemented by that of the Aggregation of Higher Secondary Education (organized by the Department of Aggregation of Higher Secondary Education, which operates within the Faculty of Philosophy of the UCC) which qualifies the licensee to teach in secondary schools.
At the third cycle level, students can acquire the degrees of Diplôme d'Etudes Approfondies, Doctor and Aggrégé de l'enseignement supérieur in Social Communications.

At the end of his training, the graduate in Social Communications will be able to work in sectors such as information (analyst and interpreter of the daily and specialized press, press attaché), public relations (consultant in matters of communication policy, designer of communication projects), marketing (promotion of products and services), the cultural sector (animator, trainer and specialist in socio-educational communication), the political sector (adviser, consultant to political leaders), the teaching and research (teaching at secondary level, at university and in higher institutes, working in a communication research centre).
